    New bull time

Murray if you want baldies I would stick with the Angus/Hereford Baldy. Here they top the market. I get asked if our baldies are the Hereford/Angus cross. They bring more dollars than our straight Angus. There is a good demand for the baldy heifers as replacements. Many only want baldy heifers...

    New bull???

I have seen several so called Black Herefords. Have yet to see a top quality Black Hereford. Much of the issue is the quality of the cattle used too create the original cattle. There are some breeders who in the last few years who have used top quality Hereford bloodlines in an effort to upgrade...

    Vaccination Over Dose

I do the same. The guns aren’t high and well worth it. If one jumps, ect I’m fine.

What’s the best way to wean?!

We usually wean and move the calves and leave the cows in the pasture. It has worked for years but if I have 1-2 pairs around the house I put the calves in an adjoining pen for 3-4 days then move them. Did one last week. No issues either way.

VAR Power play and SAV Emblem

Thanks for sharing. I really like mine. Using one son and will calve a daughter this fall. She has a heifer on her now. When I started getting back into the cow-calf end I was fortunate to find and buy her. She is docile and easy to handle but don't like a chute and never settled AI but always...

Have you used War Party before? If so impressions of his progeny? I have a daughter that is a nice cow.

    Preg checked another bunch today

This statement is BS IMO. All my life deer have ran with cattle and the biggest bucks I've seen have been in cattle pastures. Every day we have deer grazing wheat with our cattle. They are scattered with the cattle. In NM they would eat cake in the winter in the same line with the cattle. Last...

    Herd bull selection time

I agree. I use act BW, WW and YW. That is what I sell by. I like to know how a breeder feeds. The weights might be ok for a heifer bull considering how they were developed IMO. I also like to see if possible and if not know about the dam. Her type, udder and milk flow along with is she an easy...

    Herd bull selection time

Will be curious to see what others have to say. I'm going to sit it out as I don't use EPD's anymore for selection. I use acutual weights and measurements and visual analysis.

    Early Heifer Maturity ?

Here is a link to what I feel is a good article about some great cattle people in our area. Coosh knows about them I'm sure. I found the reading interesting. They have done an excellent job of breeding cattle to fit their environment and that work for the area commercial breeders. There is a...

    Lutolyse good or bad?

Nesi I've never heard that rule. We have run 2 bulls a lot and always knock on wood have had very good conception rates.

    Early Heifer Maturity ?

We tried breeding younger. Have went to 14-17 months of age. The variation is because until this year the bulls were left in year round. Our goal in the future will be to calve them at 24-27 months of age. We have had less issues by letting the heifers mature a little more and calving later than...

    Birthweights

I have never had any BW/Calving issues with mature cows on wheat pasture. And I've ran cows on wheat a lot. It is bred heifers on wheat where I've seen enough increase in calf size to cause calving issues. One issue I've seen with both easy doing cows, bulls and heifers is they will get too...

    Birthweights

Like has been mentioned I feel many factors enter into BW of the calf. I had a PB breeder tell that weighs every calf that during the drought when he fed 12 months of the year for 2 years that his BW's on calves from the same dams and sires was over 10 lbs heavier. He gave the exact amount and I...

    Truth or Judgement on Breeding

I have an own daughter of his and wish I had more. Like I posted in a thread last week I'm surprised he wasn't used more. What puzzles me is the few I've seen have all IMO been good. One of our local Angus breeders we have bought a bull from sold some in the first sale of his I attended. The...

    How time flies..

We had the very same issue this spring. After we got them separated and the one heifer took her calf or at least what I felt was her calf they have been fine. I don't foresee any trouble in the future. Like yours they both calved basically at the same time and picked spots really close to each...

Should I buy Reg Angus bull? Here epd’s

If you need another bull he is very reasonably priced. At least for what prices are in this area. I feel the older bull is a solid bull from the pics. But from pics and with the difference in age it is hard to compare the 2 bulls. He is priced cheap enough you could grow him out for a while and...

Should I buy Reg Angus bull? Here epd’s

His bloodlines aren't what I might look for but I wouldn't consider them generic. Have looked at some nice bulls with very similar breeding. Why do you call his breeding generic? Why do you say he is too muscular. If he is I'm afraid to say even those of ours I think needs more muscle are more...

Vet says cows open ? Advice

At the money you have invested that is what I would do. I imagine they will breed right back as soon as they pick up a little. With what killer cows are bringing I wouldn't sell them unless they don't breed after you put a bull with them and they put on some weight.
