    Loading calves

I use a lane instead of an alleyway. The lane is just a little wider than the trailer so you can back in the lane and tie the panels to the trailer. I then have a gate that is one panel back from the trailer. I then put the calves in there until I have a cut full then load and do it again.

    Ice storm pics

This was the storm from a few weeks ago. We ended up with almost an inch of ice and no snow. The only real way to prepare for it in my opinion is to get plenty of supplies and stay home til it's over. The biggest pain for me was I had chickens that were 7 weeks old and if a generator went down...

My job was to feed in the winter, because he got home after dark, check the cows every day and fence any fence that was turn down. I would work the hay for free till we had enough for my cows then he would pay me for...

    Opinions on a bull

In your area you should be fine with 10 head on 23 acres. You will have in most years excess grass. Something to look into is stockpiling to shorten your hay feeding time.

    crazy prices

I am young and trying to get started, 21 to be exact. I've been lucky with all the cows I have bought in the last two years. My biggest problem is being able to afford fertilizer so I can get my pastures up to par and be able to produce quality winter feed.
