    Street legal Utv

In Texas if you want to avoid EMS picking you up with a sponge...lots of truck traffic here... Just drive your ATV or whatever it is in the wide Bar Ditches... not on roads. Just watch out for culverts and holes...lol.

How much to pay for bull rent

We keep a few yearling bulls for lease out. Would never lease our prime bulls. That said... We charge $250 a month, minimum 2 months. If longer than 60 days, we prorate rent on per deim basis. The customer is responsible for pick-up and return the bull(s) at their expense. Only lease to...

Best place to buy T Posts in East Texas.

All T-Posts are not equal... For best ones, only buy those rated at 1.33 lbs/foot. I'd be careful about buying any at the Big Box stores since they usually buy and sell the "best price" ones for the uninformed. JMO. Also, some lumber yards sell the lower quality ones.

    Fence jumpers - need advice

Longhorns don't even try to compete with other breeds. Same holds true for different breeds of other cattle "competing" with other colors of cattle. Same is true of Bison. Every breed of anything has its place in the Big Picture. :cowboy:

    Fence jumpers - need advice

The "serious" Longhorn breeders do not raise and keep junk. If you want to see some of our "well fed" Longhorns, please go to our website.

    Fence jumpers - need advice

Everyone to their own opinion... :) We sell our weaned calves to private individuals for a variety of reasons between $500 and $1500. On a rare occasion, we sell an idiot calf to sale barn for probably $150 to $300. Our yearling and older breeding animals (depending on pedigree and appearance...

    Fence jumpers - need advice

Agree with the others! Fence jumpers or fence crashers will not get better. They will also teach the others. We had one several years ago...escaped into a neighbor's pasture. Called the sale barn and they sent 2 cowboys on horses and roped her and went direct to sale barn...cost $150...

Do you have wild hogs on your farm?

Just like fire ants... Only GOOD wild hog or fire ant is a DEAD one!

    Bull Fence

Put up a second fence on your side about 10' apart. Also, run some barb wire on the other fence. If one bull can touch noses with another, then a train wreck is waiting to happen. And, when a cow comes in heat another bull on the other side of one fence can just walk through it to get to the...

    Dexter cows???

Dexters are good breed for small acreages and/or hobby farmer. When buying one (or any breed) important to see them in person and "walk among them" at their seller's ranch. Only select those with gentle dispositions. If you plan to breed them, only have one bull. Any cattle are better off...

Need advice on making a heifer gentle

Frequent interaction in a positive way. On the other hand, don't want them to be "not afraid" of you. You must establish pecking order and YOU are #1 in the PO. They must respect your space. Remember: 1000# of turbocharged 4 wheel drive on a mission is no match for a 150# human weakling...

    Hay prices in your area

Last month we paid $109. a 5x6 bale of fertilized, irrigated, weed-free bermuda delivered from producer about 60-75 miles away. I doubt seriously that quality hay (14 to 16% CP) will go down this year. We've been stung more than once by "unknown" suppliers. Couple of years ago we bought...

    Two Record Breaking Sales?

A recent Longhorn auction had a cow that was "Pulled Out" when all she was bid was $145,000! A recent major auction house sold a Baseball Card for $2.1 million! It takes all kinds of idiots to waste money on these types of things. Guess those with money to spare...aka collectors...

Cost per cow --- per year

I think those $300 to $500 costs per cow are definitely underestimated. To get a "truer" picture of one's costs one needs to include "overhead" expenses of one's ranch operation: insurance, office expenses, depreciation, etc. If, however, a rancher does not have any hay to buy or...

    What a Difference

IMO...anything NORTH of I-40 is the Arctic Circle! When I was younger and crazier spent time in Colorado and South Dakota and Kansas... "Quoth The Raven"...lol

Wal-Mart USDA No. 1 Choice beef.

While I'm not a supporter or advocate of Walley World by any means, they do have their own capitalistic, expansionist views. They will alleged sell anything they can get a deal on from the victimized producers. That said, GRASS FED ALL NATURAL BEEF definitely has a following and will command a...

Anybody measure how much their cows eat?

Our system computes how much hay, salt, mineral, electricity well pump uses that is put out each month. We divided that dollar amount by the number of 1,000 A.U.'s we have. Includes all types and sizes of animals. We get a monthly and yearly average "cost" per A.U. About the only way one...
