Planted millet. Now I'm in trouble I think.

To those of us who have stuck around, it is more like a family.

Be nice, CCFarms. No need to start off on the wrong foot. We have a certain sense of humor here. You have to get used to it sometimes.

    Land Prices?

I agree it gets cheaper the more you buy, like a lot of stuff, but really, the price of land has gotten out of hand. It needs to go down and I hope it does. No one is going to be able to afford it, and when they do, it won't be worth what they bought in for. Sound familiar?

    Land Prices?

I am amazed at that number. You can't touch anything around here for 700 an acre of we would have bought it. When we were looking to relocate, land was going for 2500 an acre at least, that's with no fence, no pens, no minerals, nothing. We looked at a house near Malone with 25 acres with it...

Cocoa's not a pet but he acts like one???

You can buy bottle racks. I never tried them. I had calves that would butt the bottle and make it go everywhere.

    Baby Jersey bull calves

Tried one when I was doing bottle calves. They eat a LOT and don't have a thing to show for it.

If they feed M&M's I want to go! That ain't M&M's I'm smelling over Amarillo, though.

I just got a jersey calf & have lots of questions

How old is it? Are you bottle feeding it? I had a bottle calf once with a persistent dry cough that we were never able to totally get rid of. I just prayed he didn't start hacking in the sale barn. Are the electrolytes because he's scouring? More details would be helpful. Electrolytes won't...

    Mini Jersey as homestead cow

Get a mini donkey to keep it company. They are good companion animals and are easy keepers. You can find then ranging in price from free to thousands of dollars depending on what you want. They are good hobby farm animals and usually are pretty gentle. Get a gelding or a jennie, not an intact...

    Confused Newbie here,What to do?

I have several of those Storey's guides and the are good, aren't they? I use them all the time of the donks and chickens. The foaling manuel has been especially useful for me. I about have them memorized. Sounds silly, but they are great.

*New Orphan Bull Calf...but what kind???*

That's what I thought. I had a little brown swiss bottle calf that looked exactly like that. He never filled out and boy did he eat! Ferd. He's a little survivor, that one.

What exactly is a "club calf"?

Yeah, when I see a little bitty kid at a show, I have to wonder how much work that kid actully did, or if it was Daddy's "imported" help. Sometimes the kid did the work, but other times, well, you have to wonder. And that's not really fair to the other kids who did do all the work.

wild cows get tamer with age?

I have two I am trying to teach to pen. I have been leaving the gate open and putting feed in the there. Last night, one would get a mouthfull of food and run out of the pen, get mouthfull and run out... I was sitting on a bucket nearby to get them used to me being there. If I ever get them to...

    Freemartin?

I stand corrected, as usual, Dun, and bow to your experience. :dunce: The original poster didn't say whether this heifer was born in his own herd or not, but as usual, buying at the barn is a crapshoot. The ones I buy are generally destined for the freezer, so it doesn't matter to me. It'll...

Cat walk closed at sale barn.

We were at the local barn a couple of months ago and there was someone there with a video cam. I think she was filming goats, but I didn't stay long enough to see what else she might have been filming. She was sitting up there with the old timers. I don't even like to sit up there. I just...
