    Jacking up settled barn post

Dig around post to access bottom void. I like the bottle jack and cribbing idea to move it slowly to avoid stress and breakage. Raise just a bit higher than level to allow for further settling. Fill hole with concrete. Good luck!

    Butchering at a younger age

She should be fine. Flavor should be good coming off grass rather than hay. A few pounds of grain a day really helps growth and finish if you are not selling 100% grass fed beef. Good luck.

Better be creep feeding the calf to get most money.

    Belted Galloway heifers vs cows

Yes, she is purebred. We showed as a calf and sold. She was National Reserve Junior heifer as a calf and went on to win as a yearling. She calved at 25 months. 100% legitimate heifer. I plan to flush her momma this spring and have several full sibs next year. Sunnybrook is about 4 hours...

    Belted Galloway heifers vs cows

When did this feature happen? Could never do that just a couple years ago. Heifer above is one we raised. She won World Beef, Illinois State Fair and National Junior Show

I'd love to post some pix, but I do not, and will not, use a service to store images.

    Belted Galloway heifers vs cows

About 2/3 retain the belt. I have shared bulls with a neighbor for use on his Angus heifers and have bought back most of the calves. Have fed several steers, selling beef in 1/4 and 1/2. My butcher likes the Beltie cross for his retail meat case. I sell half blood heifers for a premium...

    Belted Galloway heifers vs cows

I raise purebred Belties and calve a few out each year. I also calve a few Angus cows that have been bred Beltie. Have never had an issue with a Beltie or Angus cow cow calving by herself. I have assisted a couple of heifers through the years, though none were hard and probably would have come...

Castrate My Bull or Leave Him In-Tact

Nice calf, but I see no market for him as a bull. I agree with others that he has too much Brahman influence to be represented as a Red Angus x Angus. Cut him unless you have a bull buyer in the next month or two for a Brahman influenced crossbred bull.

How to obtain a spotted calf

Lots of Belted Galloway cattle in Texas. They handle heat well.

got my bull tested and need some wisdom..

Twin to a heifer should have no influence on the bull's fertility or quality. IMHO it is not a reason to automatically cut a bull calf.

    Bull

He looks better than many bulls that are shown here. He looks to be growthy and sound. Somebody would benefit in using him on COWS.

    Weaning heifers

As long as there is no bull with the cows. Many breeds start cycling at six-eight months of age.

Feeding a load of steers for 90-100 days

What are your plans for the calves after the 100 days on feed? They should be between 800-900 pounds at that time. Too light to kill and too fleshy to bring a good price at the sale barn. I also see about $150/head in feed already invested. Based on local numbers- 500 pounds at $1.65= $825...

    Small registered herd ?

Small registered herds can do very well. I raise a registered niche breed (some purebred and some crossbred) on my limited pasture and barn set up. I have a strong demand for the purebred breeding stock I raise as well as steers for freezer beef. I can, (and do) sell many more than I am...

    Where's the $$$ at?

A niche breed can return your money at a much higher rate than many of the suggestions given. I started with Belted Galloways here in Illinois about 5 years ago. I can only keep about 7 cows around here, but have a consistent demand for cattle that I produce as well as those I buy and sell...
