We had a few day old calf come up missing for eight days. I thought it might still be around as the cow never called for it and then about 4-5 days into it missing I seen some calf poop on her ear...so I knew she just had it hid. Eight days later it reappeared and all was fine...

Years ago when we were new to the area I remember someone saying that they had a separate mineral feeder that they put lime in. They said the consumption was low but if the cows needed it, it was there. Any other thoughts in this?

Yep all four. Only thing I can think is she had a calf (3rd or 4th) last Feb 28th in a big snow storm and cold spell. They all got extra grain thru it though... and they all came out if it in spring in really good condition.

I have this medium age cow that has these defined growth rings. Can someone tell how this cow faired nutritionally by the growth ring patterns the past few years? Thanks

I lost several of the best calves a few years in a row. They were about 5 months old. I started vaccinating all calves several times for Blackleg and I haven't lost one since and it's been about 5 years. I suppose it could be something else. I thought maybe hereditary or something but others...
