    Pour on wormer

Bmoore how do you that the wormer did its job?? You can use anything that you want, but unless you do a fecal before and after you could just pour some water on their back and call it good. :)

    Pour on wormer

Usually it will say on the label the temp range for storage. But I would say no. Simply because pour ons do not work well for deworming anyway. If you want to deworm them well, use an injectable. If you want to deworm them better, use a tube wormer drench.

That is some crazy edema! Good to share the pics so others can see what it is like. I also would take a chance on the calf. However, I would never market her as seed stock to anyone.

Pour on dewormers and Longhorn/Brahman cattle

Thank you M.Magis for posting the link. I was in a hurry and did not have time to fuss with it. I am sure that there are other brands also, but this is one that Tractor Supply carries. I realized after I had bought it that I couldn't use it on my Brangus, so I diluted it and sprayed my horses...

Pour on dewormers and Longhorn/Brahman cattle

There are certain pour ons that can not be used with Brahman or Brahman cross. I will post the label.

Again, I truely believe FS might be right about the "edema" or it may be an infection. I certainly would not be too quick to call it a "bad udder" until you investigate.

    Thin cattle

I would like to caution about hitting them with too much good food too fast. You need to work them up slowly or you can get a bloat, founder or acidosis. The only thing that I would give them free choice at this point is grass hay and mineral. Everything else, slowly work up to. Sounds like you...

Is it just an illusion because of her markings, or is her vulva hanging extremely low also? I would get her in and check out that udder. It looks awfully red. I wouldn't milk her out, but I would certainly want to know if it is painful and warm. Sure looks like it might be.

Cow Down - Imput needed please

I had several vets examine my cow. 2 at home and numerous vets down at UCD teaching hospital. Including a Neurologist!! All had thought it was an injury. :bang: After a second relapse, I was the one that suggested a Selenium level. Bingo! BTW my cow had a healthy calf on her also. I wouldn't...

    Obstructed throat...

Usually with an obstruction, they will drool. If they are unable to swallow there is some type of distress. They may even try to cough it up. I think that you would want to be safe and ask the vet about Rabies first. Of course if it is rabies, you will see other symptoms soon.......

    Cattle Transport Question

TT there are some diseases that have been successfully eradicated, or have not reached certain states. By making sure that the cattle coming into said states are free from those diseases, they are keeping their animals safer. Kind of like making sure that people coming into the US aren't...

    Cattle Transport Question

Don't forget a brand inspection in addition to your health papers. Also usually a TB test that you have to allow for extra time to be rechecked again in 48-72 hrs.. But as Mdash said, check each states requirements. You local vet or brand inspector should have that info readily available.

    Unexplained down cows

DailyCash that is great news! I am also betting that this is nutritional. Whether their Se is low.....or not. But I would still not be surprised if it is what has caused the muscle wasting and weakness.

    Unexplained down cows

It is all prescription. Are you a Selenium deficient area? If so, Get a hold of the vet that was out and get some in one of them ASAP. You will know with in 48 hrs or so if that is going to do it.

    Unexplained down cows

Just read your follow up post. It can certainly happen to one or two in the herd, same time or not at the same time. Still sounds like white muscle disease to me. The good part is, if it is Selenium deficiency you can turn it around quickly.

    Unexplained down cows

I agree with Nesi. Selenium deficiency is the first thought for me. Exactly what mine acted like. If you are in a Selenium deficient area and not using high Selenium minerals, boluses, and shots, it could be your problem. Draw the blood, then give a good dose of Muse, Bose, or multimin. 2 cows...

Don't know what's going on. Very worried.

Sorry to hear that you lost your calf. It is always hard, no matter how many that you may have. :(

    ? about Multimin 90

Through my research I discovered that calves start to loose their mineral stores from gestation after the first few months. I know for sure that they do not get Selenium or Mag in milk. (Probably missing others also, but those are biggys for me.) So if they have not learned to hit the loose...
