    Fuzzy yearling steer

Well, totally anecdotal, but I poured him yesterday and he was already seeming to be grazing more enthusiastically this morning, while the others were still waking up.

    Fuzzy yearling steer

I’m eating him, not showing. Was just getting help with genetics vs issue. I have no desire to shave a steer

    Fuzzy yearling steer

    Doing it as we speak.

    Fuzzy yearling steer

Butcher in November/December, unless he needs more time than that-processor has openings. I'll deworm him again, none of the others have this issue, just him. Poor gene combination I suppose. All on same pasture and feed are BCS 5, if not fat. Won't use this sire again-might not be best suited...

    Fuzzy yearling steer

🤣Too much $$-he’s doing freezer camp eventually

    Fuzzy yearling steer

He definitely seems to not tolerate the heat as well as my blacks do, but they have more brangus in them. He has more Angus.

    Fuzzy yearling steer

I have a home-raised steer that is just not shedding his calf fuzz. AI sire, so not sure exactly how the sire does in warm weather, but dam didn’t slick off well until second summer. Of course, now summer heat and humidity is coming, so of course, he isn’t gaining as well as I would like. He was...

    Bad luck keeps on coming

I will say, the airplane thing can be an issue. We used to live near a local airport-right under the flight path. We had coverage for airplanes falling out of the sky. Now we live next to SpaceX testing facility-nothing leaves the ground (static tests), so no coverage for any damages incurred by...

    Bad luck keeps on coming

Sudden and accidental tearing apart? Like, of body parts? Collision might have been an option if a vet would have said he had an impact injury. That’s tough…

    Aorta rupture?

    Congenital chondrodystrophy

I love learning about new potential issues. Looked up an article from here in the US and it appears to be linked to mineral deficiencies and drought affected feeds or high silage diets. Any pictures of the affected calves?

    Blind cow

That’s what I wondered-if she acted blind again once she got into unfamiliar areas at the stockyards.

    Blind cow

Was the blind one recovered still or did she relapse in a new environment again?

    Small Trough De-icers

Apparently I didn’t add enough salt….our wind chill got down to 3, but the milk jugs didn’t make it. One collapsed and the lid popped off, this one did like Mahomes’ helmet and shattered. Luckily our pipes thawed a little yesterday and we were able to refill some empty troughs. The kids were...

    Castrating a bull

Did one yesterday using the Black and Decker-there are definitely technique differences between different vets. One went really fast (3 years ago)-zing! Flying nuts. One last year didn’t get the clamp locked in the chock very well and went really slow-some bleeding and swelling afterwards...

    Castrating a bull

It’s a Henderson tool-clamp that attaches to a cordless drill to spin the exposed testicles instead of pull and cut. I think Buck had a video posted last year somewhere.

Putting weight back on thin cows

Might be an issue with ruminants vs mono gastric animals

Big foot and a dead calf

Those don’t look much like ribeyes…how’s the burger?

How soon can I butcher a steer after ACE?

Make sure you take a buddy with him when you head to the processor. Agitated beef can be funky

How soon can I butcher a steer after ACE?

Can’t imagine that he’s going to taste too great when you finally do take him in, if he stays crazy
