    Replacement milk for calf

the oldest one was about one month and weeks old. The youngest about two weeks old. We started out with 2qts per calf twice a day. Then after that we gave them 2qts three times a day. Never went over 6qts per day. The grass they fed on was avg it’s not the highest quality grass to fatten up...

😂 it’s ok I live and work in nyc, but we have a cow calf operation in northwest Guatemala near the Mexican border. Still working out the kinks of our operation. As mentioned above I tried several milk replacers, I never saw adequate gains, milk replacer is expensive and I didn’t see a...

    Replacement milk for calf

I’ve tried several milk replacers that were available and we didn’t see a difference one replacer which is common down there has oxytetracycline added is this normal??? . The reason why I sold them was because we were approached by a woman who supposedly had a few dairy cows who thought they...

    Replacement milk for calf

These were my bottle fed calves. I sold them as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Too much work and we can never get them to fully develop. Either the milk replacer I had available wasn’t great or we did not give them enough milk. It was a bit of a headache.

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Hi everyone so just to throw an update out there. It looks like we have the situation under control for now, we dewormed all the cattle, gave them doses of oxytetracycline 4 days apart. Used a product vigantol AD3E (Made by Bayer) and another product which is called Hematofos B12 with iron...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Hi Lucky_P, we did have a conversation about sacrificing one and checking her to see what it could be. As of right now the last two that died last week we were unable to coordinate for anyone to pick the cattle, because we are so remote. However one of the vets I spoke to who also happens to...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Not offended at all. We finally got our meds yesterday and all cows as per the vet are going to be treated today. He thinks it’s a possibility that we did not deworm correctly which has cause this, possibly six months ago to a year ago. I’ll let you know what happens in a few more days...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Hi Lee I’m actually not on-site. What we did do is we did separate 20 cows along with their calves into a separate pasture to see if we can get them into better condition over time. They have access to daily clean water, feed and minerals, Tomorrow morning I’m actually calling a vet who works...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Agreed we thought maybe the way we grazed affected them but there’s still time. Anemia definitely set in as well.

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Has anyone had it in their herd?? What’s it look like??? The green circles on this one cow which looks somewhat healthy is where the parasites “supposedly” make or dig a “cave” these two cows died one in Friday and yesterday morning. They have plenty of grass even though we are doing intensive...

    What’s everyone using for minerals.

I’m in the process of finishing up the rest of our minerals that we have in stock. We are switching from a brand called Rolf minerals which the mineral content is based on 2kg VS Balanz Mineral salts which the mineral content is based on 1kg. I’m basically doing this based on the fact that...

Vitamins & Electrolytes Multispecies Supplement from Durvet

Hi Kenny my cost per animal per day right now is .17 cents per day. That includes the following cost, mineral salt(50lbs bucket) mixed with 100lbs common salt. Vaccines and vitamins 2x per year. We stopped using dewormer last year so it did bring cost down a bit. And includes labor. I don’t even...

Hello everyone. Has anyone used the product above and if so do you still give your cattle vitamins and supplements through intramuscular injections or would this satisfy their needs. I was thinking of adding it to their water?? Btw I’m doing mob grazing so their water is replaced everyday.

Invermectin does it kill the soil??

I’m just bit concerned, yes the land has deteriorated over the years but it was because we used bad grazing practices, pesticides for killing weeds and just recently used pesticides to help control a locust infestation we had, they just devoured the grass. Does anyone know if it’s true that if...
