donkey(s) that kill calves become buzzard bait around here. if you plan on keeping them, maybe they will grow out of it. not worth the risk to me. good luck either way!

My cattle do that too (no brimmer influence). I can do anything I want with my cows as long as I am by myself. If I bring company (kids, etc.) they are extra cautious and will head for the back 40. You did well on those mommas! They'll make $$. The longer you keep those calves, the more they'll show LH. I've had a few LHXChar calves in my lifetime, and as long as you sell them before they get real stretchy, they'll do just fine.

I'm with bird dog. I prefer to use weight per day of age. I think it is a more accurate measurement, especially if you have calving seasons of 90d or longer. We don't, but still like to use it. It's much easier than discounting or adding weaning weight to calf because they are younger or older...

Nailed it! Pretty ain't always profitable, especially if you don't have the name recognition of some of the big seedstock outfits. Commercial outfits have to look at things differently...or should I say SHOULD look at things differently. Old habits die hard though.
