    Bagging Up

Alright so I sent my cow to a breeder to catch her in heat and breed her with some decent semen that I had bought. She was with him for 4 months. This is a completely AI herd that's shared with the man's cousin. She was confirmed bred in the fall. And at some point while she was there the last...

    Calf with weak hind end

Unfortunately it was a new vet that our office was trying out so she doesn't have the same amount of cow experience as our usual. We ended up giving her a BoSe and I will be sending a couple hair samples into the Holstein Association to look at genetic issues. I was always going to get their...

    Calf with weak hind end

We are taking it day by day. She is comfortable and growing fast. Somedays she improves other days not quite. Just hoping and praying but not getting my hopes too high. She can run and trot around just fine. It's just the walk where she can't quite get it right.

    Calf with weak hind end

I am going to have the vet out Saturday for a couple other cows, so I'll have him look at her too. I'd like to try keeping her around as long as she is comfortable and until weaning. She cost me too much money to not try a bit. What's the worse that can happen? She doesn't appear to be in pain...

    Calf with weak hind end

I had a heifer calf born exactly last month 9/11 with some issues with her back leg. It took her a while to stand and she seemed to be just a lot less active than the other calves. She always has been. Recently I've been noticing that the leg issue is not just confined to the leg but it looks...

    Fetal Absorption

She does stress out very badly at fairs. A couple days earlier we had tattooed her and done some procedures on her. She had to stay in the trailer for a long period of time as well.

    Fetal Absorption

I did not notice anything until the third day of the fair. She had a very large amount of thick red blood it only happened once. Once I wiped it off it didn't come back. It was not a normal heat cycle discharge. All I know is what the vet told me. Didn't give me an explanation on why it...

    Fetal Absorption

I looked over the Zoetis website and their products are very interesting. Do you use them often? How well do they work?

    Fetal Absorption

Can I use this on all my cows or just one who has previously had an issue? Can I do it to ones that are already bred? How often do I give it?

    Fetal Absorption

I have a first time heifer who has been confirmed bred two months ago. She had a very large amount of bloody discharge this weekend and I'm told it is from a fetal absorption. Now I have questions. What is a fetal absorption exactly? What causes it? Will it happen again? What can I do to prevent...

Pregnant holstein with sac around belly

    How large was the calf?

Pregnant holstein with sac around belly

From the pictures I am thinking that you are referring to her belly button it that it? It does look larger than normal. When is she due? If she is due soon you could just wait it out until she calves to see if things change.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

She is increasing her milk and we are giving her 16 quarts of sweet feed + 4 quarts of corn. She looks healthy but the udder rot is bad. We wash her a lot but it keeps coming back. It bothers her and makes her udder sore.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

So the barn hand called me yesterday telling me that they forgot to tell me that she had udder rot and they didn't give me her medication. That fixes everything maybe it will help her feel better. The baby is getting 2 gallons of milk a day but I feel like its not enough.
