The abortions are over a 12 month period. Between both herds it’s 240 cows/heifers/calf’s and steers. The herd that’s producing this is the older herd. The daughters from the older herd have not produced this problem then again only five calf’s that have been born from that herd so far with one...

They are vaccinated for everything, they are getting vaccinated soon.. 2X a year is what we do down there. The only thing we are changing this year is we aren’t using invermectin.

I don’t think it’s brucellosis, they were vaccinated in February and we don’t introduce outsiders, except for the sires but they are vaccinated before coming into the property. The only ones not vaccinated against brucellosis are the calf’s.

Does BVD cause deformations?? I’ve read abortions is a definite.

I have one that survive and his jaws crooked as well as his nose. He’s still eating. I had another that died 3 days later and had a hard time moving around.

Long term it would probably be best to check by hand and have my manager trained.. thank you for providing the input on anatomy of the cows organs. I’m going to call them and ask.. with the info you provided at least now I know what to ask.

Thanks for the input. Yes ultra sound machines seem very expensive. Excuse my ignorance but how would it affect the way it works if the heifer/cow has an infection, thanks in advance.
