    rolling electric fence wire

I found a partial roll the same way with my bush hog. It took me lots of bad words a bolt cutter and a six pack to get mine unrolled.

painting some barns, asphalt or acrylic?

I talked to the folks at Barn Paint.Com, they told me the acrylic is the better product and is also cheaper. As for the tar and diesel mix, 3 years ago I mixed 5 gals. tar, burnt oil and diesel making 15 gallons of homemade "creosote". Someone on this site had put it in tips and tricks. I soak...

    Horse flys & RAID

My neighbor works his big pulling horses with a sled every day. The horse flies land on their backs and he swats them by hand. He then picks them up and pulls the head off. I asked him why he does that even though the guts are hanging out. He said that way he is for certain if they happen to get...

I have also seen some lacquer type black fence paint. these are my neighbors barns and he want me to spray...

    question about barn roof

I have just spent a lot of time and money putting 40 year metal on my 100 year old Tobacco barn. We have had 10" of rain this month and the roof leaks in spots. It has old 5V metal on it and I just can't afford to replace it. I keep it coated good every 3 years with aluminized paint. I have...

    Barn door track question.

I am getting ready to put metal on my barn and get rid of the old sliding doors. I am trying to figure out what is the best track system for new doors. My neighbor likes the Cannonball but says that it is pretty expensive. The old style square track I have now tends to come apart on occasion at...

    Homemade Creosote

I think he means used oil. I made a big batch of this and soaked some white cedar posts out of Canada. I sealed off the bottom of 2 9' sections of 6" pipe and stood them upright in the barn. I rigged a pulley and put the posts in the pipes and kept 6" of this mix over the tops of the posts. I...

    Recharable batteries

NIMH are better than NiCad and I believe that Lithium is better than NiMH. NiCads stink in digital cameras because they can't handle the demand of the camera. Do a Google search on Nicad vs. Lithium batteries and you will find more info on batteries than you care to read.

How do you deal with mud?

I use the black "road fabric" with 4" of # 2 or 4 gravel covered with 2" of dense grade. Its been down for 5 years and cattle don't faze it.

What's the best time to cut black locust posts?

I'm getting ready to put up some new fence and can't stomach the thought of paying 23.00 for "pressure treated " end posts. My neighbor says I can cut some black locust for end posts but neither one of us can remember what time of year is best. One guy says the spring and one says the fall...

Dieselbeef; These nuts were so rusted on I don't know if anything could have gotten in. The candle trick may well work for another problem. I appreciate you sharing it with us, you never know what will work until you try it! Joe

rusted 3/4" tie rod nut won't budge, Help!

Finally got my nuts off! After heating the nuts 3 different times they gave up. I was just about to throw in the towel when the last one finally moved, 1 hour later it was off. I kept flooding it with Kroil and Blaster, back and forth a little at a time. The 4' pipe and 18" adjustable is...

rusted 3/4" tie rod nut won't budge, Help!

I dismantled my haywagon Saturday and found the tie rod nuts had loosened up years ago. I need to turn these 3/4" fine thread nuts about a full turn. I have tried soaking them with Blaster, Kroil you name it. I soaked the whole tie rod end for a day in a can full but no good. I had the big pipe...

    white cedar posts

I went ahead and bought a bundle, they were $6.25 for 6" X 8' posts at Miles Supply. Nice thing about them is they are all the same size and all straight. I am going to soak them in homemade creosote for awhile and use them in the spring. Pressure treated posts around here are just dipped. 6"...

    Woodworking Tip Needed

You have to keep it in a damp place for quite awhile so that it dries SLOWLY! I don't know if you wrapped in plastic if it would mold or not. But if you want it to dry as is it will take several months of slow controlled drying. Good luck.

    white cedar posts

One of my neighbors bought 2 bundles of white cedar posts that come out of Canada. I was wondering if anyone has used them before and how they hold up. The pressure treated posts around here are about $8 for 5". The green stuff is only about 1/4" deep into the wood, there crap but all we can buy...

    Pasture Dragger

I bolt a couple of railroad ties together and drag'em behind the tractor. They slick down cow pies and slick down my gravel road. My neighbor fastened 3 together and attached 2 old engine blocks on top. He uses it to smoothe out his field after plowing. Really breaks up the clods.

    Coating pole barn posts

How long will a 6x6 oak post last in concrete? Now that I have read these posts I have to fess up I'm one of the boobs that put my new 24' x 24' shed in concrete. I triple soaked my post ends in homemade cresote but now you have me worried. I never knew posts would rot faster in concrete. Live...
