    Mustard and alfafa

We have wonder about mustard mixed in but think it unlikely. This stuff is all over the county and I'm sure the seed didn't come from the same place. At $5-6 per pound I would sure like to think you would get good seed.

    Mustard and alfafa

All of my neighbors have wild mustard growing like crazy this year. My question is, why is it only in the alfalfa? I just have grass hay and not one mustard plant, look over the fence and the alfalfa field is a sea of yellow. How do you get rid of it without destroying the alfalfa? My neighbor...

    How much 2,4,D?

I use a 25 gal Fimco sprayer on my 4 wheeler to spray some smaller places. I have tried to figure how much 2,4,D Amine to mix per gallon. The instructions don't say, the folks where I buy it aren't sure and every neighbor I ask has a way different answer from the next. I just want to run my 7'...

What causes thick green semi-circles in a pasture?

I have noticed thick dark green semi circles about 1' wide by about 10' long in some of my pastures. The grass is much darker and thicker than the grass around them.First thing that comes to mind is that a cow crapped in a 10' arch, but I haven't had any cows in there for 2 years. If my whole...

    treating hay fields??

I have a question. My county agent told me that putting lime and fertilizer down at the same time was not a good idea because the lime and fertilizer tend to fight each other. One is acidic the other is alkaline. He said to lime 6 months before or after fertilizing. I have often heard of doing...

    driving posts

I had my fence here in Ky put in about 4 years ago. The 10" end posts were driven in a good 4 '. I now have several that are leaning and 1 coming up. I trusted the fence builder as he has an excellent reputation in the county. He only used a single H brace at the ends which I feel should have...

What kind of grass is this?

I think we have a winner. I looked at the link for Dallisgrass and that looks pretty much like what is taking over. The bad thing is it looks like it is hard to get rid of. Any ideas on how to eradicate it out of a field?

What kind of grass is this?

Thanks for fixing the size of my pictures. I keep thinking this is some kind of crabgrass, if you look at the bottom of one of the pictures you can see my boot to give you some idea of the plant size. This stuff seems to hug the ground more than growing tall. Still at a loss as to what it is...

What kind of grass is this?

I was clipping my pasture this week and noticed what looks like crabgrass. This stuff is in a clump up tp 1 foot in diameter and grows in a clump no more than 3 or 4 inches tall The leaves are about 1/2 wide and are turning purpleish in color out towards the last third of the leaf . It does not...

    electric fence mystery help please

How far apart are the "hot" wires and the barbed wire? I think what you are having is capacitive coupling. To have inductive coupling you have to have some level of current, which the fence charger can not produce. The more separation between the hot and barbed wires the lower the capacitive...

    new fence

I am putting up 2000' of fence right now. I'm using 6 strands of hi-tensile with every other wire hot and every other wire grounded and posts 20' apart. My neighbors raise cattle and pulling horses. They tell me top wire of barbed wire is about useless for turning the horses. I've seen for...

    urea VS. ammonium nitrate

I tried to do a search, but as usual the search is not working. What is the difference between these two? My neighbor just fertilized his fields and used urea. He tells me its 46% nitrogen and cheaper than ammonium nitrate. The last time I bought a buggy of A.N. for my field I thought the FBI...

    Geo textile question

I agree with the rest. I have it on my 1200' road and all around the barn and lots. Grass and weeds grow just like it was dirt. Thank God for Roundup!

    horsenettle question

I just finished clipping my back pasture and noticed I seem to have a good bit of horse nettle this year. Whats the best way to get rid of it? What time of year is best to spray it? Seems like its always something. One year the ironweed is bad then its thistle then its nettle. I get one thing...

Should I cut now or wait?

I sold all my cows and am going to let my fields come back for a year. My question is, should I wait until the grass goes to seed and then mow. Should I mow when it starts getting up a little and keep the weeds down? I have sprayed 2,4D and most of the weeds are curling up. I am not going to...

    cut now or wait?

I have a pasture that I overgrazed for 2 years not knowing how dumb that is. I had it limed last fall. Ran a renovator with bluegrass, orchard grass and perrinial rye per the county ext. agents directions. Fert. per the soil test, all done about 3-4 weeks ago. Sprayed 2,4D on sunday to kill the...

My spring loaded ratchets ( Kencove) have 2 marks on them that tell you how tight it is and keeps the tension on. I use the first mark and its plenty tight.
