    Chicken Litter - First Time

Sorry, just now seeing this. It is hard to tell to be honest. I haven't tested my hay nor my soil since doing this. I have quite a bit of things going on at my place so I cant say that it was a huge success or anything like that but I can tell you the regrowth after first cutting was...

This weed/vine laughs at regular strength glyphosate.

Looks like common vetch to me. Always love to see the stuff on my place bc I never have any hairy vetch!

    Crab Grass

Love my Red River Crabgrass! How many lbs per acre did you put down?

I’m not sure I follow you. Are you saying that alum BINDS up the P&K?

    Chicken Litter - First Time

This is about the best pic my wife took. They claimed it was the most dry they had ever seen, but I’d have no way of knowing. The smell wasn’t near as bad as I expected from what I’ve smelled near the actual chicken houses in NW Ark. Thanks for your info, I appreciate it.

    Chicken Litter - First Time

Good to know. Assume for grass tetany? I’m already a little worried about Nitrates in the Johnsongrass but hadn’t thought about tetany being an ongoing issue as well.

    Chicken Litter - First Time

After a few years of trying to just get by with a little fertilizer and little seed here and there, I finally bit the bullet and had 60 tons delivered. Will be spreading in the next week or two. My place is very P&K deficient so hoping to see some real improvements this year. For those that...

    Bale Grazing

That looks great! I can’t think of a more efficient to do what you did there. Bravo!!! Thanks a ton for sharing your experience!

Fence, you are a wise person! This should be THE comment of 2020!

    New generation "farmers"

Steve hit the nail on the head. I’ve been alive not all that long, but long enough to hear the promises of increased revenues (and rainy day funds) from horse racing, slot machines, table games and now mary jane. I’ll be a monkey’s uncle if the State of Oklahoma still doesn’t have a massive...

    Bale Grazing

I definitely plan on using poly wire if I go down this road. Seems to give a person a little more control on how fast they fly through the hay.

    Bale Grazing

I have seen the results of moving hay feeding areas as well and mat end up doing that again instead. Not going to lie, the fact I work in town makes bale grazing appealing considering how poor the fertility is on my place. Two birds one stone is pretty appealing and might do a hyrbrid of the...

    Bale Grazing

That looks a decent amount of cover established in a year and was a great idea. My reasons are different for considering bale grazing. After rotationally grazing this year, this is what one of my pastures look like (full of three-awn). I suspect this from management, lack of fertility or both...

    Bale Grazing

Big blue, that is awesome! I really appreciate it and do have quite a few questions: 1) what made you bale graze this area (fertility, recently cleared, etc)? 2) how many cows/pairs did you have bale grazing and how many bales did you go through? 3) did you try to reseed after bale grazing...

    Bale Grazing

Has anyone had first hand experience bale grazing on old worn out pasture ground? I have been overrun with three-awn grass due to lack of fertility and desirable cool season grasses and am debating trying it out this winter. Would be curious to hear from those who have tried and liked it as well...

    planting Johnson grass early

If it weren’t for two forages everyone else hates, being Johnsongrass and Crabgrass, my cows would starve for three months out of the year. They are both quality forages and re-seed themselves via proper management (if that’s what you want). If you happen to own/lease an old worn out fallow...

    Daikon radish

Disced and planted a mix with purpletop turnip and T-raptor (rape/turnip cross) and a few other grasses and legumes on 9/13 and think I’m see either the turnips or T-raptor. This spot was in the shade so very little cover here. Blend was recommended by NRCS soil scientist. My place is pretty...

    Johnsongrass/Prussic acid

Murray, thanks for the info! Not sure where our thread went earlier... You planning to pull them or let them cruise for the potential frost this Friday? I moved mine out of a pasture with similar amounts and stage of JG where I had them trampling in Rye seed to my fescue and crabgrass paddock...

    Johnsongrass/Prussic acid

Banjo, what did you end up doing and how did it go? I have recently rotated into a pasture that has a few bale sized areas of mature Johnsongrass as well with a chance of frost on Friday morning. I posted a thread earlier today but I guess it was removed.
