School me on over seeding pasture

I'm in the other corner of Tennessee.........been restoring/reseeding the pastures here for the last 4-5 years......can't re-plant all that needs to be.....steepness/erosion issues.....but have worked in "diluting" the infected fescue to acceptable levels. The guy I rented to prior had several...

Has anyone heard anything further about this product???

    Weed Wiper

I've Got a GrassWorks..........been mostly positive but it's a real "art" to getting thorough coverage....no matter which angles, trips, etc you use. And the pump to keep the roller just wet....but not too wet.....is a learning experience.

    Sludge as pasture fertilizer

About 20 years ago a friend of mine got a hefty contract with a county north of Memphis to take their residue and inject it a few inches.......my memory is fuzzy on what depth it really was.....across the fields and pasture land that they had various degrees of access to, via ownership and...

    Stockpiled Fescue Test Analysis

Nice......and I bet they cleaned it up!!!

    First generation farmer.

Nkline has some great thoughts there.......Boron was one addition I needed here on my alfalfa patch. Also me and my bud are fine tuning the timing on cutting, raking, baling........keeping leaf loss low. And chasing parts on some older equipment......!!

    Drilling sudex

I recently drilled in the same.......even with low moisture it's 3-4 inches tall.....today's rain should make it jump and cover over as SS noted

    Alfalfa fall seeded?

My question was about the effect of Raptor on the novel fescues. I'm involved in a several-year renovation project on an old farm..with prior abuse from being a rental property... .with soil samples being pulled....and followed.....in 2017, 2019, and this spring of 2021. I'm all for...

    Alfalfa fall seeded?

I'm not familiar with the Raptor product and have tried to research it over the past few days. Looks like it can work well against foxtails, etc Does it hurt fescue??? Kill or control??? I've been interseeding several novel varieties in a alfalfa stand that's thinning out

    Millborn seeds any experience?

I'd have concerns about the difference in size........but also about the timing. I planted RR alfalfa in mid May before and let that get up during the summer, even cut a bit of hay off, then drilled in the fescue/orchard grass in early fall..........works great in that order........in this...

    Barenbrug fescue seed

I drilled in a mix of the E34 and Martin last fall......Mostly well pleased even though I mis-managed areas of it this summer. These areas are now staring to come back strong with the cooler nights here..... I'm currently waiting on the Pennington people to ship to my dealer and a bit more...

    Cover crop....variety differences

.......Was browsing through my last issue of Delta Farm Press..(August 7, 2020)...and the first article addresses a recently completed research project by UT. While more focused on these cover crops following harvest of row crops, the info should have some value for those here looking to graze...

    Improving small areas of soil

I had picked up an old Tye Pasture Pleaser several years ago......drilled the mix......and let the roots develop. Cows grazed it all down over the winter and ate most of the radishes too. I've got a couple of 3 acre patches with a summer mix...with more radishes..up now. Radish leaves are...

    Improving small areas of soil

I had a small 4-5 acre block that was poor....got the pH improving and drilled in a winter cover crop with extra Dakon radishes.....even with it being a bit late in the summer, I got a decent stand. A couple of years later I'm seeing a nice improvement in that spot and a lot of clover...

    Pearl millet

I've some of it in a mix with other seed.......not a large amount.....but will strip some of it in about 3 weeks....can't see letting those girls stomp 50%+ into the ground

    Warm seasons coming...

I just drilled in a similar mix last week.....(plus dakon radishes and small sunflower).....it's starting to pop already.....just need a good shower of rain to boost it along. Post some follow-ups if possible, especially on the fall play out.

    Graze or not to Graze?

I think the rotation recommendation is spot on......I've been a strong advocate of it...and trying to get back to it after several years out of the business. Just need to get the water sources back up to speed personally.

    No till drill

I have an older model JD.....3010 LP..about 45hp....found a Tye Pasture Pleaser in excellent shape.....it pulls it real well but I would only use it when the grass is grazed or mowed down very short.
