    John Deere 5E vs 5M

Dealer is trying to tell me 5E is junk but I think he’s just trying to upsell. The extra bells and whistles would be nice but I don’t think it’s worth $15-$20k more. I only put on 300 hours per year. The only differences I see looking at specs are a little better hydraulic flow, more...

    John Deere 5E vs 5M

I’m trying to decide between 5E and 5M. I will mostly be using for hay mowing, baling and moving. Is the 5M really worth the extra $15-20k?

    18.4-30 vs 16.9-34

Thanks for the replies. I was asking because I might start shopping for a new tractor. Some offer either option. I wasn’t sure which would be better. The 18.4-30 is wider and would have a wider footprint. The 16.9-34 would be little taller and have a longer footprint

    18.4-30 vs 16.9-34

If you had a choice between 18.4-30 and 16.9-34 rear tires, which would you pick and why?

    Side by side feeders

I have an older Stull. It has worked well. We have fed ground feed and pellets through it. I like how they have changed the auger on the newer ones. It used to be smaller, plastic and free floating.

    GPS guidance on a budget

We bought a used Trimble 250 off ebay for about $1000. It has the lightbar and a map to show where you've been. Even my 70 year old dad loves it. It saves on the fatigue of trying to see your tracks and maintain your spacing.

    Round Bale Trailer

For us, it works best to load flatbed with tractor, pull trailer with tractor to barn and unload. That's because we don't have far to travel. My biggest issue with inline is the trailer length needed. To haul the same amount of hay as I get on 20' trailer, I would need an inline over 40' long...

    Cheapest head gate

I love my Priefert. It's not hinged on the bottom like other scissors gates and there are no ratchet locks. I could never seem to find the right click for calves. Also, it can be opened with pressure against it when a cow goes down.

    Calf Tables

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger. I just looked at a For-Most that I really liked. Any opinions on it vs Priefert?

    John deere roller

We had a 457 and really like it. Just upgraded to a 459 with net wrap and silage. I was at a Vermeer dealer and saw he had a 510 JD in the shop. He said it was made by Vermeer and they had the same parts. I think JD started making their own with 5 series.

    Calf Tables

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm leaning towards Priefert and plan to butt it up to the front of the squeeze chute.

    Calf Tables

I'm looking at calf tables because I'm getting too old to bend over in the chute to castrate calves. It's a long day to do 50 at a time. I usually round up around 2 months of age. For those that have used one, what are the features I should look for? What brands have you liked?

    Center caps falling off

I always get them finger tight, then add a half turn with a wrench. I've never lost one.

    Stock Trailer Side Spacing

My current trailer was custom built to haul square bales in the mid 80s. It has slide in stock racks that were bought later. I want to upgrade to a larger and lighter stock trailer. I have thought about adding extra rails. The question is still how small should the gap be? 2"? 3"?

    Stock Trailer Side Spacing

I'm shopping for a new steel stock trailer. One big issue I have with my old trailer is calves sticking their legs through the side rails about 2-3' high. I don't want to repeat the same problem. The old trailer has spacing of over 5". What spacing would prevent this?

Round Baler Gathering Wheels vs Wide Pickup

Thanks Dun. We had an older Case IH (Hesston) with gathering wheels. They were completely useless. We liked the wide pickup so much better. Also, we have set the wheels on the baling tractor wider so that there is 5' between them. We can hit the edges of the pickup without driving on hay.

Round Baler Gathering Wheels vs Wide Pickup

I'm looking at new balers and have stayed away from Vermeer in the past because they don't offer a wide pickup in the size I want (4x5). The dealer says the gathering wheels are just as good on Vermeer. He says he has put Vermeer gathering wheels on other brands because the Vermeer ones work so...

    JD 5525

We have loader on 5525 and also have TL90 2wd. I like the TL90, but I would not like a loader on it. The visibility out the front window is much worse than 5525. All the ac controls are in the way. I don't know if that was changed on the TD models.

    JD 5525

We've been very happy with 5525. We were a little hesitant to go from 10k pound 85hp 2wd down to the 5525, but have had no regrets. I agree with others. Get the power reverser.

    Diamond Bale Wrapper

From the videos I've seen, it's about 2 min, maybe less. It depends on how many layers you want. The biggest drawback I have seen is the amount of wrap per bale is much higher. The major advantages are lower equipment cost and more flexibility in feeding. I don't have to worry about the next...
