    North Florida Fair

    Just got back from a great show. A heifer out of my herd that I fitted won her class and (commercial) and a heifer that I fitted got supreme female (commercial). I'm happy for the kids mostly though. Wish I had some pics.

    Fat cow

    I've got a 5 year old brangus cow that has been obese or borderline since weaning. Even in 1/4 acre of Tifton 9 bahia grass with her calf she stayed fat. Her calves have all been easy keepers as well and her oldest just calved and is already visibly gaining again with startling speed. I swear...

    Callie Bermuda grass

    I'm in NW Florida and was wondering if anyone knew if I would be able to grow it this far north. We get a few hard freezes in the winter but very few days below 30 degrees.

    At the risk of sounding ignorant

    I'm in north florida and was wondering the other day why we don't have any shorthorns and very few maine anjou in the southeast. I assume that shorties have too much hair, but is there another reason? I know what happens whe one assumes so that's why I'm asking y'all.

    Quality @ Shows

    The smaller shows seem to really be getting better in their quality around these parts. Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just finally losing it? I am glad to see some better competition at the fairs after many years of two or three families dominating each one.

    Low starch feeds

    What are some low starch feeds/commodities that I can use as creep feed for purebred angus calves pre-weaning? I know corn gluten and wheat mids. Also soybean hulls? In addition, what are the nutrition numbers for these feeds so that I'll know how to mix them?
