    Herefords -- Horned versus Polled?

If a genetically polled Hereford bull is bred to a Brahman cow, will the calves be polled? Or will just some be polled?

    Herefords -- Horned versus Polled?

It seems that the quality is the same. If a polled Hereford is crossed with a Brahman cow, I would think the calf would be polled. Is that correct?

    Herefords -- Horned versus Polled?

That article was published 18 years ago. If horned and polled bulls were the same then, I would think it would be just as true now. I asked this question because I had heard that polled Herefords were not as good. It seems that is not the case.

    Herefords -- Horned versus Polled?

So the main difference is that polled Herefords cost more. It might be a good idea to put a horned Hereford bull on Angus cows to get polled black baldies.

    Herefords -- Horned versus Polled?

In general, is there much difference in quality between horned Herefords and genetically polled Herefords? If so, what are the major body conformation differences?

    All you hobby farmers lookout!!!

I have searched and I cannot find anything that reads "Nolan Ryan Angus Beef." I see Nolan Ryan's Texas Beef or Nolan Ryan's All-Natural Beef. Can you post a picture or a link of something that reads "Nolan Ryan Angus Beef"?

These look like Beefmaster cattle. http://nolanryanbeef.com/our-products/grass-fed/ I am not surprised if they slap Angus on the label and charge more.

    Why are Hereford bulls overlooked?

Hereford cattle were developed to be efficient, so it makes sense that they do not eat as much as most other cattle breeds. "These early Hereford breeders moulded their cattle with the idea in mind of a high yield of beef and efficiency of production, and so firmly fixed these characteristics...

    LH x LIMFLEX vs BALANCER

Either the Lim-Flex or Balancer bull should give you bigger calves from your Angus X Longhorn cows. Have you thought about splitting the herd into two groups and using the Lim-Flex bull on one group of cows and the Balancer bull on the other group of cows? This will allow you to compare the...

    A/H Baldies vs H/A Baldies

I would like to learn if that is true. I thought it would depend on the individual cow and bull. There is a lot of variation even among a breed of cattle.

    All you hobby farmers lookout!!!

I think two bulls per herd is a good idea to have insurance. I suppose you have a fifth bull as backup. An unloaded rifle is not much good. You do not need a horse if you have a 4-wheeler, and it does not eat when you are not using it, unless you just want a horse. Are you sure an F-350 super...

    Why are Hereford bulls overlooked?

That is good to know. Hopefully we will see a similar situation in the United States soon. It is crazy to me that an Angus that is black sells for more than one that is red when they are both Angus. In Great Britain it is one breed. Are black and red Angus considered the same breed in Canada also?

    Why are Hereford bulls overlooked?

Crossing a Hereford and a Brahman to produce F1 Tigerstripe/Braford cattle is considered one of the best crosses here in Texas and other warm states. It is very popular to use the Tigerstripe cows with a continental bull for one of the best three-way crosses. I think a Hereford X Angus is very...

Santa Gertrudis x angus herford ?

Where do you live? The cattle with Brahman influence sell much better in the South. Your cattle are Black Baldies? I think you would get some good offspring with a Santa Gertrudis bull. You would also get good momma cows. The best heterosis from your Angus X Hereford cows would probably be the...

    Breed Selection/Starting up

I am sure there are some people in Pennsylvania who raise Texas Longhorns. But I am sure it is not correct to say that Texas Longhorns are very popular in Pennsylvania. I live in Texas, where there are probably more Longhorn cattle than anywhere else, and I would not say they are very popular...

rent a bull versus buying a bull

I live in North Texas. That is what I see bull rentals being advertised for. I have seen registered Hereford, Charolais, and Brangus advertised at $200 a month. Some require a two-month minimum rental. I think it would be easiest to buy a yearling registered bull, use the bull until all cows...
