    The “free” ones

I don't personally see much in the way of Pyr /Anatolian in the one. Looks friendly and a nice dog... some lab and Heinz 57 more likely... They seem to know a good thing now that they found you. Glad they got you.

    Pay day

Shipped the 1600 lb young bull that had a scrotal hernia.... loop of intestine down into the scrotum along side one testicle... not common but the vet said he had seen one... could be fixed with surgery but not worth the cost with what bulls are bringing... He brought 1.35/lb... check was over...

    Calhoun sale 5-07

Seeing the same thing in Harrisonburg @kenny thomas ..... goats and sheep out the ying yang every week.... and some are pretty rough looking too.... don't know where they keep coming from. I'll bet there were in the 3-400 range also... I did not stay to see, I stopped to pick up a check from...

    Irrigation water.

We had 2 inches total, the first 3 days of April, after only 2 inches in March.... had .5 inch mid April... that was it.. Temps were in the 70's and 80's with constant wind most of the month so dried everything out. We have had sprinkles that didn't make barely a trace in the rain gauge...

    Udders influenced by bulls?

If the calf can suck without much help... and will probably favor the back teats the first few days in my experience... at 12, I would not be so critical... If she was 6 like @pdubdo 's cow, I probably would not keep a bull calf for a possible herd sire. I would however, not , just can her...

Open House at the Vet Clinic

That is wonderful for her to be so "into it" and willing to learn and do ..... so many of our vets around here are small animal or large animal... several specialize in horses, and my preferred vet clinic is large animal only but does "farm animals".... mostly cattle... but some horse farms...

    Marijuana

I used to cocktail waitress.... saw more than my share of "one too many" drunks. That was right when they started pushing the "take the keys" thing. I never saw the pull of alcohol even as a kid. My parents might have friends over on a Sat night and would have a pitcher of screwdrivers...

Open House at the Vet Clinic

Do you treat all those different breeds of animals as part of your practice? I think it is great that you had that. Sorry for the little boy's health situation. Hope this day sticks out in his family's memory as one of the really good ones.

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

Hope you find some information on the usda website... it is pretty decent reading and they have several updates listed so not like reading "stupid propaganda"...as in anything, read and then make your own opinions... but I do go on there and try to get some of the latest info and then keep it in...

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

Go to aphis.usda.gov/livestock diseases.... you can find more information there on the "current" state of affairs with what the us govt is doing...

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

Heard an update that the HPAI that had been found in cattle and milk was rendered completely harmless in pasteurized milk. Studies had been done and that what partial particles could be detected were not able to carry this virus since they were not viable when pieces were put under a microscope...

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

Yes, all of those things MIGHT occur... but most show very little signs of that, and honestly, how many people see their beef cattle that often to notice those differences. Unless you see a cow that is "off" and then have a vet do a blood test ( I think that it can show up in blood... but...

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

I don't think it is being looked at in beef cattle because we do not see the same "drop in production" and loss of appetite as in dairy cattle, since it is very "observeable" since the obvious drop in milk is associated with drop in feed intake... How do you measure the drop in beef cattle...

    Summer weather predictions

Like @SmokinM we are getting much needed and appreciated rain. I told my friend that I would have gladly taken a couple inches of what y'all have had down there to take the pressure off a little. We had .3 as of last evening, I will go out and check rain gauge later today. There was a good...

    My rant for the day

We have a Ford 4600 and 6600... use the 4600 95% of the time to tedd and rake all the hay.... 6600 has a front end loader and move many many round bales and do lots of other stuff with it. 4600 has a slow leak in power steering, have to add hydraulic fluid some, easy to get to, but it just...

    Hello from Deep East Texas

Or get some of the "guard rail" metal that the highway dept uses... they sometimes have "used" stuff that gets taken down in places... the sad things about trees is sometimes someone hits them hard enough to damage/break them.... guard rail and concrete in that section would be a much more...

    Summer weather predictions

The friend's sister was rescued out a window on the 2nd story of the house... at least she is okay. Fema had offered a buy out after last flood... she told my friend she is done and will take the buyout .... she's done. About time, she has been flooded several times....

    Summer weather predictions

Hope everyone's animals can get to higher ground. I remember when @greybeard had all that flooding and they couldn't get to cows for days that were stranded on little islands of "higher ground" and that many were lost to the flooding.
