This will be a very sad year

I retired a couple of years ago, in great anticipation of what’s ahead in retirement. We intended to sell our house near Tomball, and build on my small acreage near Trinity. Over the last couple of years, the economy went bust, our daughter had a divorce, loosing my son-in-laws help, and...

Round bales sticking onto hey spear

I'm having trouble with round bales sticking on the quick attach hay spear on the FEL. One bale was stuck so bad....we ended up breaking the spear. A new spear, slightly smaller in circumference has been weld on...and I'm again having the same problem. I tried spraying on some white...

    Hand sprayers

I have used three types. 30 gal pressure with a 12v pump…..this sprayer works great. Hand pump up pressure sprayers…..I have had several of these, cheap and expensive, and every single one of them crapped out, many times in the hand valve. I’ve taken them apart, blew air through them, fixed...

    Balers 540 pto v/s 1000 pto

I notice some balers different pto speeds, even within the same model. Can a 1000 pto baler be run on an tractor with 540 pto? Or vice versa. And why the difference?

Question on electric fence for cross fencing pastures

I need to cross fence my pastures and do pasture rotation. I was going to build H braces, etc just like a barded wire fence to keep my options open for going to barded wire later. I planned on tpost every 85-100 feet (neighbor has that spacing seems to work for him) then string two strands...

    Getting a fence straight

Did some searching, but can’t find the answer here. As the topic implies, how does everyone go about it. Open pasture and a long fence. I know where I want it to start and stop, but getting the in-between right. Do you taut up one wire and let it just lay on the ground as a guide? .

Speeco from TSC and Rhino S300 PHD

Been researching phd....need to buy one. Trying to find a used one, but giving up on that. Either junk, or they want new price. The two mentioned in the subject line.....these look like they are the same, but price isn't. Does anyone know if in fact they are the same? Haven't seen the...

    Culvert problems

Well…got a culvert problem. My place has a wooded creek coming up the middle of it about ¾ of the way. Near the bottom of the pasture, there is a cut in the woods, probably from logging operations in the past. When I bought this place the former owners had dumped a load of large, hand size...

    Login not being retained

This board, and ranchers.net too....does not retain the login the way it should. Lately seems everytime I come here, you have to relogin. Some forums I visit has retained that login....for years. This one has trouble can't seem to keep it for a day. Can this be fixed?

    Getting a fence straight

Below is a layout of a portion of pasture. The black line is a fence along a road. The red line is a fence I want to build. The longer portion is about 2000 feet, the shorter maybe 450 feet. How do I get that point in the middle of the pasture that will give me a straight fence. Where the...

    Building fence

I’ve been noticing, some build fence with a line, sometime fairly long of t-posts then a solid H brace. Others have a wood post, 4-5 t-posts then another wood post. Both use solid corner H braces. What’s the advantage of one method over the other? When I get some money, I have a half mile...

    Sore on cow

I notice when looking over the cows this morning, a sore on one and I have no idea what it is. About the size of a baseball, on left front shoulder, and an obvious yellow/white center. Can anyone here identify what this is? Cow appears well and in good shape otherwise.

    Thorn bushes/trees

Mow them…they spread. Got to get the right herbicide and kill them. They are getting to my tires. I was given a small quantity of Gordon’s Brush Killer, and did a test spray…it did the job. I mixed with water. I liked this product. That’s a controlled herbicide, and I don’t have a...

Numbers on ear tags wearing off

Seems the last group of ear tags I bought at TSC, they are a bit slicker….maybe not. But for sure, the permanent marker isn’t so permanent. Numbers just disappear. How or can I fix this?

    Servis batwing

I have an older Servis (Rhino) batwing. While mowing yesterday, the entire pumpkin in the center portion dropped off. Doesn’t appear it’s damaged, even found the nut. Question is, how do I get that back on there. It’s heavy. Probably have to disassemble the blades from the pumpkin, but even...

Grrrrrr...I went to buy a 1 gallon can, old one has split cap, and all I saw was these new spill proof things for over +$7 to boot. Some years back they went to this guggleing nozzle, takes forever to pour gas out of it. Now....this new nozzle requires you to press the nozzle down to open...
