    What are you eating today?

We were there last night. My sweetie had to have her 'giant turkey leg'. The local 'culture' was in full swing last night before the cold front blew in and scared a bunch of them running for cover.

I've been wearing out the pavement on Hwy 36 from Temple down to Cameron, then south on 77 to my place.

Moved and have tentatively opted to change my whole life..

@greybeard Welcome to Copperas Cove! I've been here since last July while I finished the remodel of my Austin home which is now sold and cashed out. The fun of building on my acreage in Rockdale has begun so it's nose to the grindstone again. Best wishes on your new place!

Correct. I don't anticipate doing interstate hauling. 48k gross with no cdl should save a lot of worry...

    CDL requirements

I asked if the Intrastate ruling about gross weight up to 48K with a farm tag and no CDL required applied to me hauling my equipment or cattle, picking up supplies, etc. for my farm. Here's his answer: "That is correct. As long as you are not in commerce (for hire to others), you are good up to...

    CDL requirements

I found a document from the folks at Texas DPS. There's a line in there that Intrastate farmers are exempt from the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations if the vehicle or combination of vehicles is less than 48,000 pounds. My brother-in-law is a License and Weight Trooper with DPS. Waiting...

What is your current processing cost?

My processor charges $50 kill fee and $1.00 hanging weight, cut how you like. All meat is vacuum packed. I get my ground beef in 1# packages with no complaint from the processor.

    Crossing for red baldies

I've used registered Red Brangus bulls for all of my insemination. Here's a link to the last bull I used: https://www.bovine-elite.com/shop/beef-semen-sales-registered/brangus-red/ob-red-charlie-204c3/ That's encouraging to hear that the offspring should be polled if I use a Hereford bull. Thanks,

    Crossing for red baldies

None of the calves born at my place in the last 4 years have had any trace of scurrs or horns.

    Crossing for red baldies

I'm running a small herd of Red Brangus girls. After the spring calves are on the ground I'm thinking of going back with semen from a Hereford bull to drop a group of red baldie calves. Would the naturally polled Brangus be dominant over the Hereford or do I need to find semen from a polled...

woodworkers I need advice on joining some maple boards

I just noticed I misspoke in my last response. It should say "No sir, separate machines. You should always flatten the face of a board on the jointer first before the edge. That gives you a flat face and a edge that is square to the face before using the PLANER." My apologies for any confusion.

woodworkers I need advice on joining some maple boards

The purpose of the jointer is to give you one flat face and an edge that is perfectly square to the flat face. The flat face is then fed through the planer on the bottom of the board so the upper face becomes parallel with the flat face. As you found out, feeding a bowed board through the planer...

    Cordless Power Tool purchase question.

I was scrolling through my photos on facebook today and found a photo of my DeWalt impact driver and drill/driver from when I purchased them 8 years ago. I use them daily in my job as an installer in jails and prisons dealing with all types of metals and concrete. They never miss a beat and I'm...

    Newbie needs basic AI info

I've done nothing but AI on my small herd and usually have 80% or better results on the first go around. Bovine Elite has a catalog of great bulls to choose from. My AI Tech stores my canes for me at $12.00/year. To me, it's a no-brainer compared to investing/owning a bull.
