    1883 final episode

Has anyone else finished watching 1883? I really enjoyed it, but it’s not really ending I had hoped for.

    Other interests

I’m curious as to what people here enjoy doing outside the farm/ranch/hunting-fishing spectrum. It doesn’t have to be earth shattering, but just simple things you enjoy. Maybe you like golf, stamp collecting, karaoke, dining out, wood working, or collecting old records.

    Old sausage commercial

I heard “Stars and Stripes Forever” today, and I can’t help but think there used to be a sausage commercial that used that tune. I think it was Edward’s Sausage, and it may have been from the 70s or 80s. I seem to recall lyrics about “whole hog sausage,” etc. I couldn’t find anything online...

    Dead heifer

I dropped by a neighbor’s place yesterday, and he had found a heifer dead. He said the heifer was 11 months old and seemed fine the day before. It was with another heifer she had been with since they had been weaned, and the other one was fine. I took a pic. There was a pink discharge out the...

    V rake piles up hay

I used a neighbor’s v rake today. I don’t own one, but I have used one before, and I’m considering buying one. The issue with his was that hay would often pile up on the rake. It was very annoying. It would be fine, and then in a split second, it would pile up. Is this usually something a low...

    Making Molasses

We’ve had a thread about tobacco, and not everyone has had experience with it. I thought of another one I haven’t seen in years: has anyone raised sugar cane and made their own molasses? It’s not exactly back breaking work, but it is time consuming and takes a lot of preparation. It was an...

    Late-Cut hay

We all know that first-cut hay in May is more nutritious than first-cut hay in July or August. Has anyone ever had to feed lower quality hay that was cut later and actually noticed a difference in the cattle? Perhaps their body condition declined, didn't produce as much milk, didn't breed back...

    In Person Church

I’m curious as to what the current status of church services are in your area. Any churches not went back yet? Is anyone back using social distancing? Are any back to in-person like before with no precautions?

    Last two months expenses

I guess if this doesn't qualify me as a hobby farmer, I don't know what would. Anyway, I have 135 acres and 20 mama cows. I always count up my receipts about every two months. My brother and I combined our expenses for the last couple of months today and discovered we bought $15 of diesel...

What will be the results of current situation?

I know there is no way to know, but how long do you all predict the protests and riots will continue? What changes do you think will come from all this? Some are saying defund or dismantle the police. I don’t understand that. Where do you think we will be a few months or year from now?

    Nice hay this year

Hay fields are looking good this year. It’s a nice mix of Orchard Grass, Fescue, Clover, and Timothy. I’m sure it’s a little mature for most people’s taste, but it’s been raining a lot. It looks like I’ll be able to get at it in about a week.

    Not a people person

Some mentioned in another thread that social distancing was nothing new; they had been doing it for years. :D I’m curious, do most of you here consider yourselves introverts? Do you not need a lot of socializing to be happy? Do you find yourself at home a lot unless it’s for supplies? How...

    Virus in KY

For those of you in Ky, how long do you predict we will be shut down here in Ky as we currently are? For now, schools and such are closed until the end of April. The date has been moved up a couple of times, and the Governor is getting more firm about the restrictions, although he is not...

    Dog Bite situation

Here’s a situation that surprised me. A acquaintance's daughter was going by an animal shelter to look at the pets. While she was still in the parking lot walking to the entrance, another person was bringing in a pit-bull to be put down. The dog ran from the owner and attacked the girl. The...

Boredom seems to be a crisis

During this shut down, I hear media talk about the virus itself, the economy, and boredom has to be number three. All the talk shows are talking about things to do while everyone is shut in. I saw one lady being interviewed recently, and she was about to have a meltdown. I also hear the hosts...

    Where to get real news

Where does everyone get real news? I’m not asking in a sarcastic, smart-butt way, but I’m serious. Even during good times, people seem to be very informed, at least in their mind, about what is going on in the country and around the world. Yet, at the same time, they believe media is a load of...

    Iphone storage

Anyone an iPhone expert? I have an iPhone 7 with 32G and it’s almost used up. When I check what is using the storage, media is shown as taking almost half. All my pics and videos are In the cloud, and I don’t have downloaded songs. Apps are next in line for storage, but not an extreme amount...

    People's appearance

I was browsing through another forum and noticed a discussion about how people dress in our current culture. Apparently a woman was seated in a restaurant, and a woman came in and stood beside her for a few minutes waiting to be seated. The woman who was seated said she turned her head, and...

    No Halloween pranks anymore

Does anyone do pranks on Halloween in your area anymore? I can’t seem to get over the fact that they are a thing of the past here. As far as I know, there is absolutely nothing anymore. When I was growing up, there was window soaping, firecrackers everywhere, toilet paper, throwing eggs...

    Sale barn/stock pen

I’ve been on here several years, and I still haven’t fully adjusted to calling a place where cattle are sold the “sale barn,” but I notice that’s what everyone calls it here. We call it the “stock pen” in my neck of KY. I believe I’ve called it the sale-barn in my threads before just to not...
