Bought Pharo Cattle Company Angus bull

Been there done that. My advice, especially in the Northern climates but everywhere, is avoid PCC bulls. Way to small of frames, to many dink calves, and tit sucking cows. We use OCC bulls and what a difference. Cows are 1250-1350# and efficient.

    OCC bulls pros vs cons

I have a Best Yet son, nice size and thick, positive CEM plus 70lb YW. excellent calves. I have a bull that a half-brother to Best Yet from Work of Art, same thing except the bull a touch taller. Also have a Legacy son from the same Dixie Erica 730W dam which is a Rear End daughter. I have had...

    Pharo cattle company

Yup that is why these animals are getting culled, and I don't recommend Pharo bulls, huge mistake. 80% of our cows are moderate and fleshy #1250-1300 5-6 frame that's small enough for here in Northern Michigan. Winters are brutal, often times Jan&Feb we have 30-40 days below zero and blowing.

What Angus genetics do you use now? When we switched to the Angus breed in 1990, we used a lot of QAS Traveler, Emulation and Rito 2100 bloodline.

We feed out all our calves and market them direct to the consumer. Likewise, our culls go to ground beef and sell direct to the consumer as well. Last year I bought 2 bulls from Ohlde Cattle Co. and bred all the remnant cows to them. One is an OCC Work of Art son and the other is an OCC Legacy...

Another bad trait found in retaining these Pharo females is the number of them suckling other cows as adults and these cows letting them do it. I have never had this problem in the 38 years of being in cow/calf until I used Pharo genetics.

We have been culling them and the Pharo bulls selling ground beef.

Black Angus,5-6 frames, #1300. Great milkers always weaned# 500-600 calves. The cows ate a little more hay and silage then but never lost condition like these small Pharo ones, especially if the calves didn't get taken off until Dec-Jan.

I started using Pharo bulls 5 years ago and I wish I had not. He went way to far with small frame size. It is hard to get a finished carcass over #550. They don't do well in the harsh winter climate of the northern Midwest either. Last year I started breeding with bulls from Ohlde Cattle Co in...
