    Replacement females???

Some of the old timers said it was ok the first time because they didn't take much stock in a heifer's calf. They usually kept a bull in the field year round. and let them breed when they bred. Heifers were to young, calf was going to be runty anyway so to them it was just a " get this first...

    Sweet corn seeds wth...

Best sweet corn I have raised is I plant 1 row of Silver Queen and 1 row of Golden Queen. It cross pollinates and makes bigger ears, also taste really good. The gold will stay gold but the silver will have silver and gold kernals.

    Considering a Charolais bull again.

I used a 1/2 Charolais 1/2 Brangus bull. Great bull over angus cows. All my calves grew well. I sold him last month. He was 6 and weighed 2300 lbs. Only reason I sold him is that I kept all of his heifers but 1 and will keep every heifer born out of him out of the next crop of calves. I replaced...

    Starting South Polls

I have a Brangus Cow, about 5 years old with a swollen knee joint. She limps lightly on that leg. It is her front left leg. I have noticed that she has this come and go. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Tagging the babies

What I like to do is find the calf usually on the second day after it is born and its mother has left and hid it. I put a band on the bull calves and put an ear tag. I don't have but 20 head so it is easy to keep up with who belongs to who.

    Bull for Brangus Cows

I am in North Florida, gets really hot. I prefer angus cows to Brangus, I have both. The Angus tend to breed back sooner than the Brangus. Heat doesn't seem to bother them.

    Bull selection!

75% of my cows have ears. I keep every brindle heifer that is raised. I sold my bull last week at the auction (weighed 2285 pounds) and am going to pick up a Simmental Bull Tuesday to replace him with. Hope to get all black calved and less ear.

    New Hereford Calves

I sold 2 half brothers last week. One weighed 535 and was black with a white spot on his face, brought 245 a lb. The other was white with a black nose, weighed 615 brought 190. The white calf honestly was the nicer calf. The black calf brought $1310.75 and the white calf brought $1168.50. The...

Making pasture from clear cut forest.

I cleared 20 acres that was hay and then planted in pines. Rented and front end loader with a root rake after letting it set for a year. Use it to plant rye on but gras has pretty much taken it over. I used a off set harrow to take the stumps that were left out. They naturally rot after a couple...
