Noticed calf walking holding up back foot not using it roped him to check it out it's swollen and there is a cut between the toes it's got some drainage I'd say he's 120 pounds only antibiotics I have on hand is penicillin. Will that work to help knock out the infection or do I need to get something different I also have bluekot to spray it. Or is there a better solution I need to try. I put him and his momma in a 40x50 pen at barn. He's walking around just not putting weight on the foot and he's nursing his momma will

I thoroughly wash the wound, flush with diluted iodine and coat with Kopertox. And yes, I've used penicillin in a pinch but nobody like giving multiple rounds of shots (not fun for the calf, either). Do you have access to LA200 or 300?

Got him penned up to keep him in a confined area so he ain't aggravating the foot to much
Seems counterintuitive but if its merely a wound I'd put him in a relatively clean area, treat it topically and encourage rather than discourage movement.

I can't get anything else till Monday unless travtorsupply has something and I turned them
Back
Out on a small pasture the momma was ready to get out if that pen I can work them
Back in there tomorrow no problem to hit the calf with another shot

TSC should carry la-200 or la-300 if you're wanting to try that.

Now that you've started penicillin treatment, highly recommend you follow through
giving it for 3-4 consecutive days before considering switch to another drug.
