Not many things...lol. Years ago when I was in landscaping business in Colorado, we used to dig small plants and containerize them for sale to the locals for landscape plants--dought hardy and "natural." People still buy them in metropolitan areas.

That aside, they have VERY long tap roots--secret of their survival. Other than using a backhoe to dig them up, probably a concentrated herbicide at the crown of the plant.

Incidentally the same problem exists with "native gourd vines" which also have very beefy and deep taproots with offshoots producing offspring plants distance from the mother plant.

Through the years the most effective method we found for eliminating desert loving plants was water, lots and lots of water
