After careful examination of the specs of each of your cars/trucks, I am of the opinion that my Mini would have come out tops in a robot to robot dice against any one of them... and still have used a lot less fuel
   :hide:

I don't know about that that 69 goat was one fast SOB and I got smoked more than once by a Super Bee with a 383 and a sixpack. That Super Bee I am positive would wrinkle the paint on your car as he blew by.

So I am to assume, you no longer participate in such activities??
 I cringe at the mere thought!

My first car was a 67 Chevy Belair 4 door . It had a 283 and ran good, but was real ugly. I raised and sold feeder pigs to pay Mom and Dad back for it. $800.00. I realize now my pig operation was subsidized. But they still made me work for it.
That's not happening very often now, most kids of today expect a vehicle from their parents with no thought of paying it back.

CB - I'm just having a bit of fun. Even though the Mini was fast on acceleration I'm sure there were many cars that would of licked it, I just had to test it from time to time :p . It just seems that when we were young we had to race everything - even the tractors. Thank goodness we grow out of it, well most of us ;-)

We are all tellin our age on here by our answers... but mine was a 1964 Ford Galaxie Custom. Had a 289 engine that would run like heck... great big bench seats... for me an my girl :).. loved that car.

my first car was a 1993 Ford Escort present from my Dad for passing my test...but first one I bought myself was a Vauxhall Nova 1996 brand new. Saved like a trojan to buy it, sold it when I had my Son for a bigger car.

:) Wooohooo! What a FUN subject! I love all ya'll cars! Them were the good nice ones! They don't make car like that anymore! My parents brought me a 1996 geo tracker 4-door. It was a year old when I got it, I didn't know at the time it was ghetto. It was GREAT to me! I would pile all my friends in and go everywhere, go a billion mile in that thing. Freakin' kick a&% we take it mudding' buried up and stuck so deep the gosh darn 4-wheel drive wouldn't pull it out. My "cracker box, roller skate, g-ride, ect"! I  it! Only bad thing there was one other one in town, so everybody seem to keep up with me. ;-) 15 years later I still have it too! It just chills at my Ma's house, more sentimental value than anything. My dad and I went to buy it together...when I was 16 he was killed in a car wreck. Lord know I do know its just a car, but I still love it. Its full of memories and not worth anything. It just sit happy. LOL! I used to get $20 in gas and it fill up my whole tank, I could ride all day and all night! WOW! Crazy! $20 now doesn't buy much of anything. Seems so silly we would just ride around town. Man I could have drove coast to coast all the riding I did! LMAO! All the money I burn up too wasting here and there! Man :kid: are funny! WOW!

Sorry bout your dad, must have been tough to lose him at 16. Bet that tracker does mean a lot to you.

64 Galaxie 500. Borrowed the $800 from my older brother when I was 17. Paid most of it back but he let the last $100 go as a birthday present. Had a 390 in it and sucked gas like there was no tomorrow but gas was 35-40 cents a gallon back then so what the heck. Wish I still had it.

Yeah, that was one thirsty mf. The needle on the gas gauge was in constant motion.

That's a fact, John. If I did still have it I couldn't afford to drive it much.

My first car was a 1981 Opel Kadet GL, in the ugliest green colour imaginable. It had no winter personality at all and enjoyed being pushed down Victoria street in Stellenbosch for a running start. It took me a while to figure out that the automatic choke on those Opels was a big factory dud and all that was needed was for someone to take the cover off of the air cleaner, take out the filter and put your finger in the choke keeping it open while someone turn the ignition. Sold it 5 years later on the golf course for R 6000 in banknotes, more than I paid for it, unfortunately the new owner drove in under a truck, was killed and the car a write off.

Paid $50 for a 1949 ford pickup. Lots of rust, a little sanding and painted
yellow with a brush. 16 years old 1961. I thought it looked good.

the first car I had was given to me by a neighbour, it was an '84 toyota tercel wagon with a blown tranny, used it around the farm for years, rolled it on it's roof, ended up blowing a rod at 380,000 kms

the first roadworthy car I had was a 1984 mazda Rx7, paid $300 for it, bad engine, replaced it, droce it for a year or two, hellova fun car, led me to buy 14 others (including parts vehicles), still have a '93 with 375 HP at the wheels, thing is a rocket.. it's for sale too!

1978 Ford F-250 4WD with a 400M bored .040 over. Would pull anything, but wouldn't pass a gas pump.

66 Chevelle SS396, four on the floor, positive track rear end,,fun car to drive. The wheels were the same distance apart as the railroad tracks, there was a 14 mile stretch of tracks that the train only came once a week and I would drive the tires onto the tracks and ride the rail. The car would follow the tracks so we would get out of the car and ride on the hood and trunk, letting the car idle in first gear. Was really nice in the summer because I didn't have A/C so we had a nice breeze. Very popular with the ladies, including my future/currant wife.

When we got married the wife made me trade it in for a family car with A/C and power steering. Went looking for it a few years later to buy it back but it was gone. I paid $2900 for it new and got $700 trade in a few years later. 20-20 hind sight.
