Hello CattleToday! Have followed this forum for some time and have learned much from the knowledge base here. We have an issue that stumped us and our vet. We have an Angus/Swiss cross bred cow that went off feed and water. Vet suspected ketosis but could not confirm due to lack of body fluid for urine. Treated with PG and NutriDrench. She is back on feed, but still will not take water, hence the stumper for us. We drench her twice a day with water and ND, and she processes the water into urine. This is her third day on this program.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

What is she drinking out of? If its a water bowl its possible there is stray electricity. Doesn't take very much at all and a cow wont touch it..

If it's a bucket there could be a smell or taste in the bucket.. Or the water itself may have issue. it is a good sign she is p*ssing with the water you give her though.

Is the animal over conditioned or underfed? At what stage of lactation is she? It would be wise to establish why she developed ketosis.

Can't see much wrong with the treatment, would perhaps drench three times a day but the most important is that you are getting fluids into her. Her organs will take a bit of time to start working efficiently, she may even have fatty liver depending on which ketosis she had.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies and help. This morning we tried adding molasses to her water and she took 8 - 10 gallons. Her appetite has returned and she is eating well. Her stool looks like she may have been constipated, it was very hard with mucus. Her stools this morning are normal and she is urinating good.
