Like others have said, it's hard to get people to work together on anything.
An agriculture teacher/county extension agent once said in regards to the subject of farmers working together to work towards better prices for their products, he said if farmers could get along and work with others they probably wouldn't be farmers.
Hard to find people that are willing to do anything for somebody else and especially so if it might cause them an ounce of problem.
I've seen too many times in our area that talk is cheap, and you would not really want to put much dependence on anybody to back you up on anything.
People will double cross or under cut you all the while making you think they are going to back you up or help you.
When my wife first came here and took a job, she was outspoken and several people talked with her and convinced her to be the spokesperson to relay their collective concerns and thoughts on some things. They had her back right up until they didn't, she took the fall and they shunned her afterwards like they had nothing at all to do with anything.

Just because 30/50/100 cattlemen confess doesn't mean anyone would end up in jail or on the news. In a scenario where multiple people confessed without other evidence I'd bet nothing would come of it. But you could rest assured at a de-listing hearing on capital hill it would be brought up by the wolf lovers at how the farmers are just itching to make them extinct again (as evident by the killing and subsequent multiple confessions of guilt) and de-listing would once again go nowhere.
You're absolutely right that the problem will never go away if nothing is ever done about it.

The way to make the problem go away is thru de-listing, something that is actively being sought with the current administration. Something that takes time, research, studies, lobbying, etc.

Shooting them and writing phony confession letters make take care of a wolf or two but will keep them federally listed insuring no legal lethal control, no hunting, no trapping, continued collaring, continued federal dollars for studies and research, etc.

The long term solution to this problem isn't to try and smash it with a hammer, it to delicately remove it with a scalpel.

Yes... people have been saying that for quite a while. That's a pretty common attitude for problems that never seem to go away.

Unfortunately there isn't a better option than to push for de-listing the right way. Last time they were de-listed here it was done in a hurry and every T wasn't crossed and I dotted. So it only lasted a short time before they were listed again, we got one hunting season and removed 23 wolves.

Weather a person likes and agree with it the way forward is thru congressional action pushing for the de-listing. The best way to help the process is act like boy scouts and do everything by the book. Don't give the tree huggers any ammunition to use against us.

Funny that the tree huggers force people to listen by being loud and stating their case in ways that no one can ignore...

They often state their case by simply point out how farmers/ranchers don't follow the laws and kill protected animals and our credibility goes down. Because law breaking convicted felons aren't as believeable.

Come clean as a whistle prepared with the facts of how you follow the rules and are looking how to find a legal middle ground and your credibility improves.

Often times we are our own worst enemy....
