Wolves will be wolves

Help Support CattleToday:

I have seen a lot of animals that look like this that were killed by the neighborhood dogs. I do not have a hatred to all dogs, because all dogs were not guilty. I didn't much like the three dogs that killed my pet goats. Those poor goats were horribly bitten many times before they died. I only blamed those dogs and their owner, not every dog.

Wishful thinking will not change the fact that wild wolves are ALL evolved predators and can not be expected to turn down an easy meal.

Cattle gave brucellosis to the bison. There has been no documentation of a bison giving brucellosis to cattle.

IF this is true there is also no reason to think that the transfer of the disease would only be one way. I'd bet that there are people with experience that have tested the idea and found it so reasonable that they wouldn't bother publishing the obvious.

I am familiar with the lack of evidence (no documentation) of bison giving brucellosis to bison. This is a foolish bit of evidence to support bison not being a vector for brucellosis to cattle. The probability that it is very transmittable to cattle to bison is astronomically high. Someone would have to be VERY foolhardy to try to run healthy cattle amongst infected bison under the belief that the cows aren't going to get sick just because it has never been documented. Aside from the brucellosis which is better addressed in another thread if it needs to be, a sizable, unchecked herd of bison has the potential to significantly alter winter cattle feeding options given a chance without population regulation.

There is a lot of information available concerning the fact that both elk and bison within
YNP are infected with Brucellosis.
And yes, Mr. Wolf has the ability to contribute to its spread along with numerous other
predators and scavengers.
Google has many articles on this topic that I found several years ago.
