Just wondering if anyone has a preference on winter pasture mixes. I am looking at the Pennington products, wintergrazer 70 Rye and Supergraze. Any other ideas of combinations would be appreciated.

I am in south Arkansas. Looks like the hay crop is short this year so I am needing grazing for my cows that will start calving in Feb.. I also plan on holding about 35 calves over the winter to add some more weight on them.

i would look at marshall ryegrass. i have had good luck with it in the past. I plan to add a clover to the mix this year

I agree on using the Marshall ryegrass for your cows. Plant 1/2 acre per cow and limit graze it until early March. By then it should stay ahead of the cows.

For the over wintered calves, I would put in a some type of small grain that is suited to your area (oats, rye, tritaclae, wheat). Stock it at 500 lbs. per acre.
