Winter Grass

Help Support CattleToday:

Down here farther south we plant oats toward the end of September for winter grazing. I would think this would work in Centeral Texas also, unless the planting time would be different. Don't know if you'd consider oats as grass, but cattle love it, its good for them and it survives through freezes. (At least the kind of cold spells we get here in South Texas)

lets see you can plant oats an wheat rye grass clover singletery peas an vetch for winter grazing.wheat is hardier than oats. wont freeze out. an with wheat an oats you need to put cattle on himag minerals 3wks fore you turn emm on greenstuff.like was said you can plant sept to oct.an if things are right graze by dec. scott
