So, if I trade some goats for one dexter and one shorthorn, how much hay do they eat?

To winter over the goats, I usually count on buying maybe a little less than 1 ton per goat. How much hay should I anticipate buying for the shorthorn and the dexter? We have irrigation for 6 months and then snow off and on for 4-5 months. The snow doesn't really stick for very long, but nothing grows either as the temperatures get down into the single digits.

Please let me know if you need more information. I just don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire with hay prices expected to hit $200/ton in our area. :cry2:

Thank you,

Are you getting calves or mature cows?

Oh, good question. They are mature cows and, hopefully, both will be bred for spring calves.

Thanks again,
