I feel dumb asking this question, but will a cow go in heat if she has a calf sucking?

Yes and they all vary on how long after calving i have had them calve not much over nine months after calving and some take two or three months to breed back, first calf hiefers always seem to breed back slower.

a cow can come into heat as early as 2 weeks after calving , it depends on her condition. usually they start about 45 days after calving, they will repeat heat about every 21 days. they are design to calve every year ie... if she calves in Feb. then by about may she should get bred back and calve next feb.

Thank you. I was told that they wouldn't go in heat with a calf so I needed to askj. Thank you

You can pull the calf for 24 hours and it seems to make them go into heat .as long as its been about45 to 60 days post calving .
