Wild Horses

Help Support CattleToday:

With all the starving people in the world , why would anyone let good horse meat go to waste?

If they want to spend their money and not my money.

This is the problem with most of these heart driven activities. It always seems to involve our money. I believe if some of this was paid for by "their" money, they would have a change of heart.

You just made me think of Arnold Schwartznager trying to balance California's budget with all the added legislation. Floating bonds here and there, etc. They could actually get financially wiped out if they keep legislating new environment laws, etc. with this economy. Arnold himself even bought $100K worth of bonds to set a good example.

I have a 14 month old filly that makes me wonder on a daily basis if horse slaughter ain't such a bad idea

I just saw a special where some prison out west is capturing wild mustangs and fixing their feet and any health issues then training them. They then sell them to willing buyers. They apparently do many, many a year.

Also there is the Extreme Mustang challenge every year.

Here is an exert from this years:
All Mustangs that participated in the Extreme Mustang Makeover were available for adoption on September 23. The horse that fetched the highest adoption fee was Hail Yeah ridden by Norco, Calif.-trainer Ray Ariss. Hail Yeah was adopted for $50,000, which makes him the highest-priced Mustang in the history of the BLM's adoption program.

Trainers were reimbursed up to $500 for costs related to hauling, training and medical expenses for the Mustangs in training. Trainers also received 15 percent commission on the amount of the adoption bids exceeding $200. The rest of money goes back to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to help support lands and wild horses. Very little tax dollars go into this endeavor. Very much like the the millions used for land presevation coming from hunters.

Many of the ones I saw were well into the thousands of dollars for adoption fees.

Now, I vote open the slaughter houses back up also.

The BLM gathered a bunch of ferral horses not far from here (North eastern California). Of the 50 horses that they gathered of this one area, 18 had shoes on them. With the high price of hay and the lack of slaughter houses, people have just started dumping them. I know of people that have fed their 2 horses at night, woke up the next morning to find 5 in the pen.
There is a rumor going around that the Warm Springs reservation, near Madris Oregon, is looking into building a slaughter plant. I think that is a much better idea then building another casino.

While they didn't have shoes on them, we did have some wild emus running around here a while back. I took one down and butchered it and cooked it. I assure you, there is no way emu meat was any threat to the beef industry.

Yeah the Ocala National Park is becoming a favorite release place here.

You know, every action has a consequence. I wonder if the brilliant thinkers in Congress ever considered this as a consequence when they banned horse slaughter?

The only thing they have on their minds is how to get re-elected and pick your pocket. Thinking of consequences has nothing to do with it.
