The Secretary of Homeland Security has issued a new National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin regarding the current heightened threat environment across the United States. The Homeland is facing threats that have evolved significantly and become increasingly complex and volatile in 2021. These threats include those posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groups engaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired or influenced by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences. Social media and online forums are increasingly exploited by these actors to influence and spread violent extremist narratives and activity. Such threats also are exacerbated by the impacts from the ongoing global pandemic.

DHS has now issued two such alerts.

I could not find how many domestic terror alerts have been issued in DHS history. I bet the number is very low, and now they have done in less than two in 6 months.

What are they teeing up?

Have to create the narrative that "rightwing extremists" are trying to take over the country, so sheep will stay, and fall inline when the government tries to take everyone's guns and freedoms away.

Never mind. I see it the press release.
The previous NTAS bulletin issued Jan 27, 2021, expired April 26 2021 and this one was issued May 14 2021. Basically an extension of the Jan 'alert'.

The previous NTAS bulletin issued Jan 27, 2021, expired April 26 2021 and this one was issued May 14 2021.

Using your link, these appear to be the only two ever issued warning of domestic terrorist.

There was a DHS NTAS bulletin Jan 4 2020. One in May 2018 that expired in Sept 2018. A new bulletin was issued Sept14 2018. All bulletins have an expiration date and it is normal, for DHS to issue a new NTAS Bulletin on or before the expiration date.
This is because, in years past, DHS used a color coded 'alert' system that was pretty useless. They went to the alert and bulletin format after 2011, with implementation beginning in 2015 and the bulletins are just an update of existing conditions and possible threats. Correlation does not equal causation. They issue extensions via a bulletin, and on average there are 4 bulletins EACH and EVERY year unless something really pops loose.

Both 2018 bulletins I mentioned made reference to domestic and homegrown terrorism, among other things.

Routine. After 9-11 Congress investigated and asked a LOT of questions why the intel community didn't keep congress and the public more aware of possible threats. The end result was that DHS was created and they are mandated by congress to publicly issue security threat bulletins. As one expires, a new one is issued. If there is a specific threat, then an Alert (rather than a bulletin) is issued. There are 3 levels of Alert conditions, (similar to the Defcon levels but they are different than these mandated bulletins. Gone (presumably forever) is the ""There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!"

It did not say what level it was.

DHS uses federal alert system for 1st time in a year to warn of domestic terrorist threat

The warning comes in the days after Biden's inauguration.

The Tulsa Race Massacre's centennial commemorations in Oklahoma could draw racial violence and white supremacist groups, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned in a bulletin.

"We assess that upcoming commemoration events associated with the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre in Oklahoma probably are attractive targets for some racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist-white supremacists to commit violence," the department said, according to a memo obtained by NBC News.


The memo, released earlier this week, wasn't specific to any of the several events taking place over the holiday weekend, but it said that white supremacist groups could eye any mass gathering or crowded public spaces without warning in Tulsa.
