Why are tattoos so popular?

every one f mine has a story. a life lesson or meaning....some people get stupid crap just to get stupid crap..those I don't get either..but ink on a hot chick don't turn me off any

Im just curious, did you grow up around people with tattoos? Was it a norm? I've had life lessons and lost loved ones and all that kind of thing, but it never crossed my mind to address it with a tattoo. I guess just a different personal culture. Just like I'm sure it doesn't cross too many people's minds in NY city to eat pinto beans with a ham hock like me because it's just not their culture.

My family has been farmers/cowboys for 4+ generations. Nobody on my dad's side likes or would ever encourage tattoos. It's taboo to them. Most of the old timers that I've been around are the same way.

Seems like for some it's just a way to garner attention.

I don't have any. Never have seen the need, and they're pretty expensive. I prefer to spend money on more tangible things.

I like them and have a couple. I have to be very selective about what I got. Something that would never change throughout my life, nationality, religion, patriotism, .... those kinds of tats... I like a couple tats on a woman, nicely placed out of sight except when in a swim suit. I dont like demonic a crazy tattoo's like that, not my style.

I have none. Nothing against them. I'm just afraid of needles touching MY skin. I can give someone or something a shot. But me getting one works me up.

I have one and the wife has one. Both are what I would consider nice, non-offensive and professional. Hers is on her right shoulder/base of neck, mine on my left forearm. There's nothing more than I can't stand about tattoos than offensive, ugly tattoos that give the rest of us a bad name. Because this is a family forum, I won't go into detail, but I had a buddy that got pornographic tattoos on his calves. Needless to say, we're no longer friends. It's stuff like that, that's not ok.

Those kind of tattoos are what I think of prison tatts. Shock value is kinda simular to the people who stretch their ear lobes down to their shoulders. Kinda wierd but to each their own. Whatever makes you happy, as long as it doesnt affect me or my family.

I've seen some pretty creative tattoos around "private parts"... This one is mild and funny.
