Nothing much more fun fishing than when a school of those starts breaking On top of the water. Can catch one on just about every cast while it lasts.

We used to catch 'em like that on Cedar Creek Reservoir when I was a kid. Loved it!

We called them sand bass as well, or sandies. Technically they are white bass though.

I have had Rock Bass from the Big Sioux but I think that may be a different animal...

Their not as good as a crappie, but if their cleaned correctly and soaked they are good eating

They aren't bad. Little more work in cleaning them, have to trim all of the red meat. Not as good as crappie or walleye, but still pretty good.

I would put them about equal to channel cat.
