Nothing much more fun fishing than when a school of those starts breaking On top of the water. Can catch one on just about every cast while it lasts.
We used to catch 'em like that on Cedar Creek Reservoir when I was a kid. Loved it!

Thanks for bringing back the memories houstoncutter. Good times.

We call those sand bass here at Lake Fork, good times when they are schooling. I’ve never eaten one are they good?

I have had Rock Bass from the Big Sioux but I think that may be a different animal...

They aren't bad. Little more work in cleaning them, have to trim all of the red meat. Not as good as crappie or walleye, but still pretty good.

I would put them about equal to channel cat.
