Which PB simmental bull

Help Support CattleToday:

If you're dealing with genex try a straw of high roller and tanker to play with. I like both of them. I don't mess with these young steer lookin bulls nowadays.

I do like those bulls...especially Tanker. High roller may be an issue for us:

High Roller females are moderate framed with beautiful made udders and small teat size. His progeny may hold some extra hair in warmer climates. Heterozygous Black, Homozygous Polled

We are in the deep south and extra hair doesn't work well.

I am now having second thoughts about Casino. What about this bull for Simmi's?

http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php? ... e=1SM00158

And this bull for Herf's?

Share your thoughts folks.

I used Live Ammo last year. I got one great heifer I am keeping for myself. But not using him this year.

Did you get other calves that you didn't like?

I had 3. 2 did not have good dispositions. The heifer I kept is very nice. A little more shy than my usual stock.

Thanks!! That is the kind of info I am looking for. He will be off the list now.

What do you simi experts think of this bull? I assume he doesn't have calves on the ground yet. I ordered a cane to try out on some upgrade daughters.

Just a comment- he is a Cowboy Cut son.

I keep noticing that hooks shear force 38K shows up in about every purebred calving ease Simmental somewhere along the line.

Several of the bulls have him on both sides of their pedigree.

I do not know that bull either, but he looks good and has great numbers. Just remember, the numbers are extremely low accuracies since he is a young bull. If the numbers hold up, he is a CE bull and a growth bull.

"Just a comment- he is a Cowboy Cut son" - just curious what do you guys like about Cowboy Cut because I am think of sampling him for some of my commercials. Looking to add some vigor and thickness (mostly rump) in replacements. Dams would already have good udders and feet. Prefer to stay all black. Thoughts?

I think this bull looks promising. Well rounded data set and a 3 generation pedigree with no shear force, upgrade, or cowboy cut.

Also I've ordered some Roosevelt to try. There's enough performance stacked in that pedigree that I'm comfortable he should have plenty of growth.
Don't know the bull, but if Gibbs owns part of him, I would guess he is structurally good and had good muscling.

I posted this on another thread and FlyingLSimmentals said it fits him to a Tee!

He is GREAT on heifers!

1. Cowboy Cut stamps his calves. Every Cowboy Cut calf I have seen, LOOKS like a Cowboy Cut calf.

2. They all have a small non-blocky head.

3. They all have been vigorous at birth. Up quick, nursing, etc.

4. He dictates the birthweights.

5. They are clean, smooth, solid calves.

6. They have good form. Attractive calves. If you have a market for show calves (I like to sell show calves when I can), he can put some in that market.

7. They remain thrifty and grow fast.

8. Lots of great Cowboy Cut sons and daughters are selling well in all the Simmental sales.

If I were to breed Yellowstone to a cowboy cut cow would it be dipping into the shear force 38K a little to heavy?

As I mentioned before several of the bulls listed by the semen company's have shear force 38K on both sides.

Will. With Fire Sweep's help, I select my planned matings. We try to avoid that.

I truly didn't figure that was a good thing. If nothing else it would probably scare some buyers away.

I'll keep looking

Really narrows down your choices when you take eliminate shear force 38K

Don't know where my previous post went...
I'm stacking Shear Force influence...using several sons & grandsons...I ain't skeered. We're breeding cows that will work for us, not for closed-minded folks who are 'afraid' of "inbreeding".
Maybe it's too much...time will tell...but as a commercial producer, cattle that leave here don't go with a pedigree accompanying them, even if they have multiple generations of AI breeding behind them.

Look at CLRS Aftershock...has 38K as paternal ggs and maternal gs. Nothing wrong with him...we used a cane on heifers...calves were good...but the only heifer we got had the color dilution gene(from her dam), so she didn't stay
