Which is your top pick?

Help Support CattleToday:

3/4 Either one could be on top depending on the style you're looking for. As long as 5 is on the bottom not enough separation in the others.

Are nose rings standard in Canada?

They are when the animal is to be shown before being sold.

I was wondering about Canadian Herf temperament ? ;-)

No problem there. Usually get taken out when they come into this area as they could get it hooked in a branch or scrub in our bush pastures.

From appearance my first choice is 4, then 1 and then 3. Then possibly the last one. Witch one of these that I like has the best numbers? Witch one are you leaning towards?

I will be bidding for any of them, or maybe even some others, but these would be some of my top picks, other than #5. I put #5 initially in there because I really liked his sire, but have since realized that #4 is his 3/4 brother (and a much better bull), so I would just eliminate #5 altogether.

My top pick would have been either of 1, 3 or 4, with 2 and 6 competing for 2nd place. I wouldn't be surprised to see #3 (or even #4) be picked as grand or reserve champion at the show before the sale, which would put them way beyond my price range by 2 to 3 times.

#2, #3, #1, #6, #5, #4

General thickness and fore-to-rear Balance were the criteria I used primarily, but a couple could be reversed. "General Balance" begins the discussion and rear view and seeing their feet would be mandatory before a final decision would be in order. Any of the six could be 'game changers' in many herds! The final decision should be made considering the breeder's goals, type of calves he is attempting to seek, and the cows to which they would be mated!!

Did you ever find any answers about the small WW on Bull #2?

No, not yet. Looking at lots of different bulls in multiple sales and I just got a very tempting option from another CT member today - so it might change everything.

Depends who is bidding. It's a sale that draws a lot of the big Canadian horned hereford breeders, but prices are usually pretty reasonable. Grand champion went for 6500 last year. Average was 4462. I can work with that for the quality available.

Around here for really nice horned Hereford bulls your gonna give 3500$ to 5000$ and your going to be getting a nice bull at that. There are some just about as good that can be bought for 2500$ but there few and far between.

Good horned Herefords are not cheap up here. Saw some poor horned Herefords sell last Friday online and the reserve was set at $2500. Only couple didn't sell out of 30 or so. Lots of great bulls hit 8 to 10k up here. Calgary bull sale had a lot of 8k bulls and a number well over 10k last year.

If you do ... let us know.

I strongly prefer buying and selling via private treaty.

Good luck to you and let us know what you end up with ...

As long as 3 and 4 are your top picks you can basically place the rest in any order and good reasons will keep the spectators satisfied with your placings. Pretty impressive group of bulls.

What is your reasoning of 4 over 1?

Better balance, stronger over the loin and a better front end. 1 would be my 3rd pick.
