I am pretty new too the cattle buisness and I use that term loosely, buisness/hobby more like it. We have 3 heifers 2 of which are bred, ai'd too show bulls. How ever we want to get a few stocker calves to feeesd out and sell too try and make aprofit and keep meat for our family.

what would be a suitable plan, I dont want to buy sickly calves and have my show type animals get sick. And where do you buy your calves to feed out? feeder calves?

Basically let me know your plans, how you raise your calves, feed pasture, hay too make a profit? too sell as bigger calves or keep and finish?

The best place to buy is off the farm. Pasture is the cheapest, followed by hay in most places. Its hard to make any money with a just a few calves. But at least you will have some good eating.

Check with neighbors in the area. Likely some folks will have calves that don't fit the rest of the bunch and will get split off at the sale barn anyway.

Shoot for calves that are long weaned and vacc'd.
