One of the most memorable experiences I had was with the heifer that calved right after my bday... she calved, I was there, and put the calf on a clean bed of fresh straw.. it was about 100F out, so I didn't have a shirt on.. She sniffed the calf, and thought for a minute... Then an instinct turned on in her head.. "I must lick!"... so she licked my arms vigorously for a couple minutes while I was cringing each time... After I left the wires got uncrossed and she licked her calf nicely.
