I am in the process of getting my hay for this coming winter, the man I am getting it from offer me the choice of Wheat or Timothy Hay. As I understand wheat hay needs to be harvested at the exact right time to be nutritious and I was told the timothy is usually higher in protein. Any suggestions or guidance? :?:

What age/kind of animals will you be feeding it to, is there a price difference between the two hays, and has he had it tested?

Wheat hay, can be some pretty good stuff, when harvested at the right time. Time doesn't cooperate in my pert of the country very often. It also really needs to be stored inside. Water seems to penetrate it worse than grass hay. If the timothy hay actually has very much timothy in it, then it's good stuff to. I'd see if I couldn't send off an analysis on it, and pick based on nutrients, tdn .
