What's the best milking breed of beef cattle?

Sorry, but it's a bit of a story, we often host friends and family from all over,(non-farm folks) and we usually are asked for tours of the livestock areas, much more then one we have been asked how much milk we can get out of the bull vs. the cows... Yup they really do ask. Not ot mention chocolate milk from the brown cows etc.

I think Shorthorn would be the leader amoung the mainstream British Breeds (the only one that also can be used as a dairy animal (milking shorthorn)) however that may not be the case now that they're appendix program has allowed Maine Anjou and other breeds to take over some of the genetics.

For the mainstream exotics, I'd say Simmental followed by Gelbvieh. I've always considered Gelbviehs to be "Limmys with Milk" but I'm sure that statement would probably offend hardcore Gelbvieh and hardcore Limousin breeders equally.

South Devon as far as I'm concerned is tops and Brahmans are great as well. Milk supply South Devons are the best. Brahmans have less but richer. Simmentals are great too.
