What's a ranch ?

This guy hated chicken ranches..

I dunno. What's a farm? We don't harvest any commodities, not even a vegetable garden, and the only animals on our "ranch" are cattle, the family dogs and a ridiculous number of barn cats.

A group from the University of TN Extension Dept visited the ranch a few weeks ago and one of them mentioned that a section (which we have) would be considered very large in TN but it's not uncommon in KS. Maybe it's just a matter of perspective.
 
I consider a "ranch" a place where the cattle leave in the summer to go out on "range".. Farms will often have other crops, and typically the cattle will stay on the place all year

First picture is part of a ranch. Probably a very small portion of a much bigger ranch.
Second picture is of a movie star who played a rancher. A darn good movie star but not a rancher. I guess later on he used some of his millions he made starring in movies to buy a ranch. But that made him a ranch owner not a rancher. Not taking a thing away from the movie star because as I said he was a darn good actor.
