What weight or age do you sell your calves?

Help Support CattleToday:

Usually 450 to 500 lbs. A little sooner if the cows needs a break or if the calf is not growing well .

depends on the price. used to feed mine out to 11-1200, then price of calves came up & i took them to around 700lbs. now feeders are high & i sell at weaning between 5-600 lbs when price of calves go down i go higher on weight

400 pounds, I dont cut em, no shots, or anything. After 400 pounds you have to spend some money on em to get a good return. Of course when we get a down market all bets are off. Then you got cut em bath em and make em look real pretty and lol.... you still take it on the chin.

We try to target for 400#, no dehorning or cutting. If it's a heifer's 1st. calf and she seems to be getting pulled down some we might sell a little earlier. Seems to work out better for us anyway, investment vs. return.

we sell by age more than weight. weaning......7 mos. most of them at this age will weigh between 600 & 700 lbs. the steers are all banded at birth & dehorned at conception.
