what to feed

i got a few feeder calves. weaned and what not. i want to get them to 800 lbs and spend as little money as possible. whats the cheapest thing to feed. i live in central california. weve got a guy that sells alfalfa for 10 a bail. is there some other feed that will work that is cheaper?

Around here, hay is about the cheapest feed you can buy,.....how big are these alfalfa bales?

Good grass and hay is the cheapest thing to feed them.
