What number of days is your rule of thumb to either breed an animal AI or not? Does the average animal need 40,50,60 days to heal and ready to rebreed? Don't want to waste time and dollars on animals that are too close to having calved.

If they are cycling regularly we breed them anywhere from 30 days on post calving

If your gonna do 10 day co=sync to AI start on day 35 to breed on day 45, with a bull turn him in.

If you are using a bull then I agree, let him in and he'll get her bred as soon as she's ready. If you are doing AI then we usually wait until 56 days post calving and get ~75% conception on 1st breeding. I know you can do it earlier, that's just what we do. I wouldn't use expensive semen too early unless you really need to move the due date up.
